Griffith are you Portuguese? I didn't know honestly, otherwise I never would have said anything about it. Now I feel like an ass, well, more so than normal at any rate. Scratch that, I am an ass. Sorry about that.

Sorry Jeff, I use "operative system" a lot because the Portuguese word for it is "sistema operativo". I will try to refrain from making that mistake in the future, thanks for the heads up.

I decided to go to Apple when Microsoft released four different versions of Windows. Apple has one version.

What the hell is an "operative" system? It's the second post I've seen you use that word when refering to an operating system, or OS for short. It's Operating System, not operative. Stop screwing with my lexicon.

The only time I've ever seen the words "operative system" strung together, other than your posts, is on sites translated from portuguese, or posted by people that english is not their first language.

I think its too early to say whether Vista is doomed. I think transitions to new OSes may not always go smoothly considering the large and diverse hardware and software base that Vista has to take into consideration, unlike Apple. I will say that so far, my Vista experience has been largely positive because my hardware is able to run it with all its bells and whistles.

But some things in Vista are indeed a giant leap into the stone age. Like the damn built-in defragger. The stupid thing is USELESS. Doesnt give me any options and takes forever to defrag my drives (well I hope it defrags, because it doesnt show me anything).

My usage patterns are such that I end up with heavy file fragmentation on two of my drives every 3-4 days. So I bought Diskeeper Pro, and it grinds Vista's defragger into dust. Lightning quick defrags, has great options for defragging the MFT, boot defrag, and it actually *shows* me what it is doing. The auto defrag mode is cool too..just turn it on and let it defrag automatically in the background when necessary. I wish Microsoft would learn from software such as this on how to make a decent tool.

And yeah, MS, please fix the wifi section too. Sometimes it disconnects from my wifi network for no reason. Usually reconnects after a few seconds, but it is irritating nonethless.
