In the battle for the high definition compact disks, we witness many moves and tactics from each side, but this latest announcement made me curious. Buffalo’s HD DVD players (not the burners) have just received a very significant price cut, making them cost about $170.

Did the materials made for these players suddenly become much more affordable, or are they simply trying to get rid of the extra stock they have to roll out new models?

I don’t know how the situation is in America, but here in Portugal, I can safely say that Blu-Ray titles outnumber HD DVD ones by far. What do you think reader? Will HD DVD manage to live on, or is it slowly, but surely, being overtaken by Blu-Ray?
