Joss Whedon reported this weekend at Comi-Con that the often rumored “Ripper” series was now in development with the BBC as a 90 minute telefilm.
“Ripper” is the story of Rupert Giles, Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s former mentor and “Watcher” after he returns home to England. There is no word on if the show will in anyway reference the Buffy “Season 8″ that is currently being published as a comic book from Dark Horse comics.
Anthony Stewart Head, who played Giles for the entire run of Buffy, will return to the role he made famous in the telefilm. There is no word yet on when we will see it, or if the 90 minute pilot will serve as a pilot for a continuing series. With Doctor Who being one of the biggest shows currently on BBC television, it seems likely that they would be interested in doing more science fiction, and Ripper should be a perfect fit.
