Nathan Weinberg, from the Inside Google blog noticed that YouTube might be finally “converting” their videos to a WideScreen format, rather than adding black bars to all of the videos in the said format.

You can notice this by looking at the preview thumbnails for the videos, whether they are widescreen videos or not. If the majority of the videos in YouTube is indeed WideScreen, then this change makes perfect sense, but if possible, it would be nice to be able to play widescreen and the “classic” 4:3 ratio without the need of black borders.
