Movie Rumor Round-Up: Watchmen, Spider-Man 4, and 1-18-08

Lots of geeky movie news this morning….here are a few highlights….

Watchmen

According to CHUD, “Almost Famous” star Billy Cruddup may be up for the role of Dr. Manhattan in the adaption of the Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons masterpiece.

Spider-Man 4

While we don’t know when, where, or who just yet, we do know it’s happening. Spidey producer Laura Ziskin told the Hollywood Reporter “The one thing we have answered definitively is: There will be more ‘Spider-Man’ movies…We just haven’t answered what shape they will come in and (Sony) hasn’t given us a release date.”

Rumors about the untitled JJ Abrams film are running rampant, with many believing that the Untitled film might be another American attempt at tapping into the Godzilla franchise. I wish, wish, WISH this was true, but right now I’m not holding my breath. I think something like that would have a lot more licensing issues related to it, and thus would have a much easier time being leaked…but I could be wrong. I hope I am.

Also, JJ Abrams is denying his involvement with any of the “viral marketing” sites that have popped up online, except for this one. It is important to mention that Abrams also denied several of the “Lost Experience” online sites last year during the course of that game.

A couple of hours ago I posted on my ablog about 1-18-08, but the thing that I must say is that the possibility of being a Godzilla movie or even based on any Toho asset is close to zero.

1. Toho has stated that Gojira will be out of the air until 2013, in order the develop interest in the franchise.
2. The current holder of the distribution rights outside Japan is none other that Sony Pictures-TriStar, so that makes even more slim the possibility.

But on the other side, the was a little flirt with the oriental franchise, when in the teaser-teaser-teaser-trailer somebody speaks about a trip to Japan from the Rob, (the guy from the party held on the trailer).

My 2 cents.
