After the terrible sales numbers since it’s release, it appears that the Playstation 3 might finally become more competitive compared to the 360 and even the Nintendo Wii.
Just before E3, Sony lowered the price of the console to $499 and announced that a new model, with an 80GB hard drive would go on sale for $599, and the 60GB model would stop being produced. So basically it’s a clearance sale disguised as a price drop.
In any case, the effect was good, because Sony is selling more Playstation 3 consoles than ever, and with the PSP also rising slowly, it appears that the future might not be as dark as some might expect, for Sony. Will Sony continue to sell as many consoles as it’s doing now or will it go back to it’s usual “low” sales once the 60GB models are all sold?
One thing is for certain. With Warhawk, Lair and Heavenly Sword all hitting the console very soon, the Playstation 3 might start selling a bit better. But the real killer season for the Playstation 3 will be next Spring went most of it’s must-have titles come out.
