I’m not much of a movie critic, heck I’m not even much of a Harry Potter fan, and it wasn’t until very recently that I finally decided to give it a “chance”, but maybe those are great reasons for me to write a review of it, because my opinion will be un-biased.
If you do not want to read any possible spoilers, please do not read any further.
If you saw the trailers, and if you’re reading this, I’m guessing that you did, you’re probably thinking that this Harry Potter will have more “action” than any other. If you haven’t read the book, and if you go into the theater expecting that, then you’ll disappointed.
Despite having some moments of tension and action at the end, you won’t see Harry Potter whooping people with his wand. In fact, he’ll spend most of the movie with tears in his eyes, or spinning on his bed with bad dreams. And even in the face of the best, or most tense moment of the whole film, the best thing he can do is moan in pain. I’m just making that clear, to put any false expectations aside.
Everything that drives the story forward is well planned, and the movie maintains a good balance between story telling and simply letting us appreciate the beauty and mysticism of the world of Harry Potter. Unlike some other popular fantasy films, which feel a bit rushed near the end, Order of the Phoenix isn’t.
If you appreciate Harry Potter, for it’s story alone, then you’ll have a great time watching Order of the Phoenix. If you want to see lots of flash, action, and power-heavy battles, then you’re better off seeing the Transformers.
As you can tell, I loved this film, and from all of the Harry Potter ones so far, it’s by far my favorite. I give it a B+
