Despite the fact that Sony’s PR machine (and Sony fanboys as well) would have you believe Blu-Ray is the winner in of the current format war – HD-DVD is still alive and kicking. Today, HD-DVD delivered a hard left jab to the face of Blu-Ray with the announcement that Paramount Pictures and Dreamworks Animation (who use Paramount for home video distribution) have gone exclusively HD-DVD.

The deal not only includes Paramount and Dreamworks Animation, but also Paramount Vantage, Nickelodeon Movies, and MTV Films. This is a very big announcement – particularly for Forever Geek readers. It’s no surprise to anyone reading this blog that we’re pretty big Transformers fans around here…and the this deal is starting with “Blades of Glory” (featuring Jenna Fisher looking like THIS – in hi-def) , “Transformers”, and “Shrek the Third”.

Since this is Paramount it also means that when Star Trek comes to an HD format – it’s going to be HD-DVD. According to recent reports Battlestar Galactica is likely to be HD-DVD only as well.

Now – I’ll be damned if I’m missing Transformers in HD – and I’ll be damned again if I’m missing Star Trek in HD – so my decision has officially been made for me.

I’m all HD-DVD. I think I’ll go order that Xbox360 add-on.
