A couple of nights ago, Nintendo released a small patch for their Nintendo Wii console which gave the console some small, but noticeable, interface changes in the console’s main menu and in the virtual store. But it appears that wasn’t the only thing the patch did.
Datel had a product which allowed gamers to play games of any region (for those of you who don’t know, the Wii is region-locked for all games), the Freeloader. But with the latest patch it appears that the disk no longer works. So for now, all Nintendo import gamers are locked from any import games they purchased.
Region Free Gaming is one of the things that helped make the Nintendo DS so successful, so I really don’t understand the reasoning behind Nintendo’s decision to block it for the Wii.
