Despite having lost it’s influence with the Walkman brand, Sony has gained notoriety with other high tech products such as their popular Cybershot cameras, their Bravia televisions and, of course, their Playstation brand that has spread into three different products that are currently available.
Since the first two brands did wonders for Sony Ericsson’s sales, it’s no wonder that they’re going to bring their Playstation brand to cellphones. A couple of months back, we saw a patent emerge for a device of this kind, with a rotating screen, similar to some LG or Samsung phones.

The Sony Ericsson gaming boss, Peter Ahnegard, said that a PlayStation-branded gaming phone would be coming by Christmas. He also added that it might not be this Christmas, which probably pissed whoever he was talking to off to no end.
With Sony’s stocks doing as badly as they are right now I don’t think that announcing the product officially would be such a bad idea, even if it is still a year away. Heck, who knows when Starcraft 2 will be released, but at least we already know it exists, and it certainly gave Blizzard some spotlight.

2I think it’s safe to say that it will definitely have some connection with the PS3, but I’m not sure about the PSP.
