Warwick Light, of Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand made some interesting statements the other day. He revealed some interesting plans for the PS3, but also added another notch in the Sony executive “dumbass” belt by making a statement that just makes no sense while attempting to jab at Microsoft.

First, the DVR talk.

“We’re also hoping next year – about the same time that Freeview launches its terrestrial broadcasting service (expected to be in March) – to release a digital tuner for the PS3, turning it into a programmable TV recorder.”

Now, there is no official word on if we’re going to be seeing that in the US or not, but it is an interesting idea that would help add value to the PS3…assuming it doesn’t cost $300 by itself.

When talking about how the PS3 is future proof because it had Blu-Ray playback(a dumb statement in an of itself, but not what we’re talking about here), Light added the following statement: “DVD is current generation. Why would you support current generation?”

hmm…why would you even think about supporting CURRENT technology…oh, I don’t know…maybe cause CURRENT technology is what everyone is using?

It helps keep your system affordable, while still giving you the ability to adapt to the future…when you actually KNOW what kind of technology is going to last.

Also, doesn’t the PS3 support DVDs? I believe it does…
