The first season of Star Trek TOS is coming to HD-DVD/DVD Hybrid disks on November 20th, 2007. The disks will include the entire first season of Star Trek as it originally aired, not as it has been airing in syndication.
The disks will feature the series in HD-DVD format on one side of the disks and standard DVD format on the other side, allowing you to play them in your current DVD players as well as that new HD-DVD player you’re sure to buy.
Here are the details:
* Contains all 29 episodes of the first season of Star Trek: The Original Series
* 10 double sided disks (standard definition DVD on one side and HD-DVD on the other)
* Episodes in same order as the standard DVD release of the First Season.
* Each episode (SD and HD) is digitally remastered with new digital effects.
* Each of the 10 disks contains at least one special feature (such as a documentary, interactive tour or pop up interview)
* All episodes are full length (unlike those aired in syndication)
* Digital effects are same as those aired in syndication (except in HD)
* NOTE: some season 1 episodes in the box set will not have aired in syndication by the time the set is released.
The series is available on Amazon.com for $138.99 (marked down from the MSRP of $199).

1Nice, but TOS was never even close to HD or widescreen was it, so how good could HD actually make this?
cheers for Australia

The resolution of the original film that the show was recorded on has a higher resolution than even HD. The production company behind this has fully restored the film, plus, since it’s the original film, they can adjust the framing to make it widescreen without doing any stretching or warping of the picture.
The special effects have all been redone, shot for shot, in HD.
So it looks AMAZING. It looks like a show that was shot this year, instead of a show that was shot in the 70s.
If you have an Xbox360 you can actually download the in HD to see what it will look like – or if you don’t have one of those, you can download DVD quality versions of episodes from iTunes to get an idea of what it will look like.
