Venturer has released the first sub-$200 HD-DVD player. Is this the one that Wal-Mart is stocking for the Christmas season? Not sure…but what we do know is that the SHD7000 will play back HD DVDs at 1080i, support Dolby TrueHD have HDMI output. It lacks some of the features of the higher-end players, but it has the “magic” price point.
As long as the Toshiba deal, offering 5 HD-DVDs with the purchase of a player is around, it’s still a better deal to get the $240 Toshiba model, but once that deal is gone, this will be the lowest priced Hi-Def stand alone player on the market.
Bring it on Blu-Ray! Bring it on!! (yes, this is me trying to enrage the Blu-Ray fanboys out there – come on…get angry…grrr…)

3Right now I don’t care which format wins, I just want the damn war to be over so we can have the new drives without being limited to half a dozen laptops/computers.
