Acer Ferrari 1100 UMPC

Acer and Ferrari got together to announce their latest “laptop” code-named Acer Ferrari 1100. The new product isn’t a normal notebook like other Acer Ferrari’s, this is more of a UMPC that has a small screen measuring 12.1-inches.

In the inside there is an ADM processor, more specifically the Turion X2 dual-core, and for the graphics part there is an ATI Radeon X1250. Obviously it comes with the newest Windows versions already installed, such as Windows Vista Home, Vista Business, or Vista Ultimate.

The hard-drive can hold 250GB of data and in case you need more space just use the DVD burner.

The Acer Ferrari 1100 has a built-in 802.11a/b/g/draft-N wireless module, and a fingerprint reader.

That’s a pretty powerful “UMPC”. I’m wondering what the catch is? Weight? Battery life? $5k pricetag?

The catch is that this is not a UMPC, its just a small (and probably expensive) laptop.

A UMPC has a screen size of normally 7 inches (the range goes from 4.8 to 8.9 inches) and it’s usually a touch screen. Obviously the case is also much smaller and I have not yet seen a UMPC that you would be able to fit an optical drive in.

Is that a real photo of the 1100? Because it is the same as the 1000.
I’ve owned a Ferrari 3000, the first Ferrari to come out. It was expensive as hell but worth all the money.

Now I’ve got a 1000 – nice little thing, too.
As with all AMD processors, battery isn’t great for a portable. Doesn’t even compare to my MacBook, where I can watch movies and work for hours without needing to plug it to the wall.
