A few days ago, Apple released a statement warning that the next iPhone update would brick any iPhones that had been unlocked, and that it could also brick those that had third-party applications in them. At the end of that article, I anticipated that despite the warning, people would still try to update their iPhones and end up with a very expensive brick:

I’m certain that there will most likely be a flood of hate-articles if this next update happens to brick a random iPhone of some random European guy.

My only mistake in that phrase above is that it wasn’t a European that first reported the “brickage”.

According to him, the error that appears when you turn on your iPhone is that the SIM card is incorrect. So he went over to an At&t store, explained that his iPhone had stopped working and rushed back home with a brand new SIM card. But his iPhone still isn’t working.
