Despite the recently reported problems with it’s screens, one thing that iPod Touch owners can’t complain about is how durable and scratch resistant the front glass is. Charlie White from Gizmodo recently posted an article with a video showcasing exactly how resistant the Touch’s screen is.

The screen was able to “resist” being scratched by a safety pin, a key, and even a razor blade. Although that might not sound like much for some users. When you own a first-gen iPod Nano, like myself, managing to keep your iPod scratch-free is a job on it’s own, so I find this “unadvertised” feature quite good.

3Cool? I got my 2nd Gen iPod Touch 16G. Unfortunately, I dropped it on a bar table (about 8″ drop). It landed on its corner. My 5-day old iPod Touch glass screen is shattered. Unit still working fine but cannot use without overlay plastic to avoid cutting my finger. It’s frustrating how fragile this thing is. I’ve checked forums discussing this and looks like it’s going to cost about $100 for apple to fix it. Scratch resistant glass is very fragile. Well, looks like your key cannot scratch the surface – however, it’s definitely gonna break it… Palm Pilot PDAs were better designed in term of the touch screen. They are not as scratch resistant as Ipod ouch/Iphones but it will not break if you drop the unit.
Still looking what my option is.
