srry to rez but i just got done with this movie. (really regret spending the time on it (should of watched 300)) anyways f doesn't even begin to describe how i feel about this movie. and what is this crap about it only being based on the death of superman arc every commercial i saw for it showed scenes pertaining to either the death of superman arc or the actual novelization. oh and before you go thinking im a major 30 year old comic geek im 20 and a comp nerd. i personally noticed that EVERY part from the comic that i got emotional over while reading it and the book (besides his death which they didnt even do right) was take out. the justice league getting their butts handed to them, REMOVED. the world reaction to the death, REMOVED. SUPERGIRL, removed. the fact that lex luthor was the one who did the funeral AND memorial, removed. and speaking of the statue what the heck was that anyways. that was not superman with an eagle on his arm. and where were the justice league during the funeral. its like they decided that just because they didnt have to follow continuity they could go purposely out of their way to break it in as many ways as possible. yes i know im a ranter. if you want to see this movie even after reading this just go to Wixi.com dont and find something else to watch. im username megasofdark.

Well I just watched it and... It didn't really do it for me. For one i cant understand the point in not having the movie in the previous DC comics universe, with the justice league cartoons etc. If your a fan of the original superman cartoon it may take some time to get used to the new voice actors, who do a very under average job and also the new louis lane who stinks. Doomsday himself only makes a short appearance and the fight although good in some places doesn't last very long or go anywhere. I thought doomsday died way to easily as well. Overall it was crap. Nearly as bad superman returns.

I had it ordered ON DEMAND via my cable TV provider and I actually enjoyed it. I'm 34 and have been a fan of Supes for quite a while now.

I have read the Doomsday comic and although the new animated movie is a far cry from it I went in understanding that this movie was simply BASED on the comic and therefore didn't go in expecting it to fully measure up to it.

The action sequences (fight scenes) were pretty good, many people are killed by Doomsday but it isn't at all "graphic" in nature, it's not as though you actually see see guts and what not. You see Doomsday pounding people, throwing people hard enough to kill them and one scene shows him picking up a person by the head and crushing him but they don't actually show the guys head being crushed or anything like that.

If there was cursing in this film then I completely missed it, I saw when Lois wwent to Martha Kent's home she used the word "freaking" but it's a far cry from the actually "F" word itself. The voice acting was a bit dry (Lois "Anne Heche" reminded me of a female version of Captain Kirk of Star Trek) and the fact that she and Supes were an obvious couple for 6 months being intimate and she didn't yet fully know that he was actually Clark Kent makes you kind of wonder why she's a supposedly great reporter to begin with.

To me, this movie was simply a longer Superman The Animated Series episode with a little more "umph" to it and that's all.

I give it a C grade as it was entertaining (not as great as the advertisements make it out to be) and i would definitely say that if a person is going to watch it thinking that it will be the same as the Doomsday comic then they are setting themselves up for dissapointment.

Oh well, gotta fly... up, up and away.

F is way too harsh...

The movie doesn't advertise itself as a piece of art, which is what the critics here are looking for. It's a kid's movie, plain and simple. The PG 13 is just window dressing, don't let it fool you.

The animation is great. Rewatch the sequence with Superman and Fo-Superman shooting heat vision at each other. Gigantic heat vision plasma storms!

I decided to check it out, expecting it to suck. There's a good bit to complain about it, but it basically felt just like an episode of the Superman animated series with different versions of all the characters. I agree that an F is too harsh. C or D is more appropriate, in my opinion.

I actually thought the movie was very well done. The movie is simply inspired by the comic book, even the cast said so.

Did you really expect the producers to condences the exact Death of Superman & Reign of Superman story in a 75 minuites? Please dont be silly... ofcourse there were going to be drastic changes.

Furthermore, in your review, you focus on unecessary petty details...E.g So what if we didnt see hundreds of bystanders die during the fight scenes. Does it really matter? Besides, we saw enough innocent bystanders die during Doomsday's rampage.

Giving the movie an F is WAY too harsh.

Your review sucks. People, don't let this review prevent you from watching the movie. It's a good animated feature. Check it out.

The character design was horrible. I couldn't get past superman's face. What the hell happened to him. It looks like he got hit with a kryptonite laced ugly stick. This was the worst superman animation ever. The voices are horrble too. It just seems like very little effort went into making this.

WOW.

I appreciate that Michael saved me from having to write all of that.

I hate that Seth's coments make me point out that even not knowing the original story is no excuse for not recognizing an empty script, complete with a boring fight scene. Ignorance of the original tale does not magically make this story better. It's terrible, and nobody who gets paid to write stories should feel good about having their name associated with this garbage.

The animation was routine, and decidedly average.

It was almost as terrible as Superman Returns.

ALMOST.

Right on. The whole "clone" aspect is already done with Bizzaro. At the very least do a clone 'boy' superman?

The Doomsday fight scene lacked any ump, and no cool animation that you come to expect with these guys. The last fight scene was equally as boring

They had so much material to work with and just decide to condense the storyline down to nothing. They could have done a 90minute fight scene + death and focus on that, the impact, and response...

Its such a huge disappointment, that I doubt much of the team that has brought us superman in the past worked on it.

simply lacked any comic book magic.

Damn. I'm glad I didn't waste two hours of my time seeing the premiere at Comic-Con in July.

I'm still going to rent it, though. Even though I know I'm going to be disappointed. It's like a geek-moral imperative.

the thing is you are all watching the movie as informed, comic book readers. you know the reign of the superman storyline.

i also am a comic book fan, so i know it too. the people i watched the movie with, however, had limited comic knowledge, and they loved it.

the fight scenes are obviously amazing; i disagree with your claim the the animation is poor.

dont let the pg13 fool you, its a kids movie.

~Spoilers~
First of all I want people know I have never read the comics. Yet somehow this still did not live up to my expectations. Right of the back I cursed the voice acting decisions. I was confused as to why the animation style had changed in subtle ways from the animated series. Anyone know why superman had gigantic cheekbones that make him look like an old man?

Various other things just didn't seem right like superman dieing then popping up in the next scene. Lex Luther only successfully creating an army of super clones after superman is already dead!? As mentioned before superman seemingly did not care about the people who were killed in the doomsday fight, I kept thinking why are people just standing there? Why don't the evacuate the city!? Why is no other super heroes showed up to superman's aid or even show up to his funeral? And my final ranting statement... how is it that after the fight when Lois was holding superman in his last moments no one thought to try and help. People just stood there puzzled.

I agree whole heartly with Michael's review. It seems that the only superheroes can do now is solve problems with viloence without regard to bystanders or property. In the Silver Age, Superman would have thought out the solution to the problem first, without engaging in a battle that cost lives (undoubtedly) and destroyed property. Superman used to be more than just brawn, but no more.

Anne Hesch does give a terrible preformance, but I am not sure whether she is capable of giving a good one. She spoke too quickly running over her lines, which made it difficult to understand what she was saying.

I would also give this movie an 'F' as well as giving the present comic book industry an 'F'.

I would also give this movie an ‘F’ as well as giving the present comic book industry an ‘F’.
