Assuming HD VMD is on track for a Q4 release and not merely vapor, one more HD format will make things more complicated but can push all HD prices down and drive the format war to a speedier conclusion. If it gets any traction at all, HD and BR will need to respond.

Hooray, let’s double our next-gen movie formats overnight!

I’d like to announce I’m currently developing SJ-DVD. It will have twice the capacity of all the other formats put together, will play in all existing DVD players, is region free, un-copyable, and my player will be selling for US$1 plus shipping. It will, however, only have one title released for the format. Ever.

Let’s hope these bandwagon-jumping formats are merely vaporware…
