EA pays $860 million for BioWare and Pandemic Studios

Today is a very sad day for any self-respecting gamer. EA is going to purchase BioWare and Pandemic Studios and is going to pay that hefty sum of money, shown at the topic, for them. No good has ever come out of any game company that EA purchases.

What this means is that the high standards we once held for these companies, specially BioWare, are likely to drop and the games will be rushed out the door so quickly that some of the copies will come with a programmer attached, begging you to let him finish his code. That and… when you’re playing Mass Effect, there will probably be some advertisement for a random rapper whenever you walk into a vehicle or an elevator.

Maybe I exaggerated a little with that previous sentence, but I’m certain that no good will come of this. And the titles those companies released until now may very well end up being tomorrow’s classic titles.

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Why did it have to be Bioware.

  2. Matt says:

It seems the popular comment to make is that EA would somehow be able to touch Mass Effect at this point. It’s coming out in roughly a month so they highly unlikely are going to be able to say much of anything about it beyond asking how final testing is going. Now, if we want to talk about games like Dragon Age….

Even if EA is not going to impact Mass Effect, I am still saddened by all of the great Bioware titles in the future that will be tainted by EA. This is a shame.

  4. UnGreat says:

It’s more that it makes Mass Effect seem like a swansong for the Bioware we know.

I can’t see EA taking the time to craft a great RPG when they can just churn out some piece of crap and spend a trillion dollars on ads to secure sales. Hopefully some Bioware staff will splinter off and form a new company making great games.

You would think the collective cries of “NOOOOOOO!” from Bioware customers would send up a red flag at some point :-P
