[...] Forever Geek’s review highlights a lot of what I enjoy about the game and look forward to reacquainting myself with in the PSP version. Much like their reviewer, I don’t think I could ever tire of playing this game. There are numerous variations and directions the game can take. I still have not done a lot of the bonus side quests or tracked down Cloud Strife. The only other games I can safely say I could never tire of are the original Final Fantasy (same reasons: the game is so open ended that the gamer can employ a variety of strategies and constraints) and The Legend of Zelda (which just never gets old). Most modern games just don’t move me in general, but especially in this regard. [...]

After playing the Japanese version for a little while, I've concluded that the slowdown in the English version is extremely minimal in comparison.

While the Japanese version seems to skip and slow even when characters are moving and the spells and abilities slow the game literally to a crawl, the English version only have slowdown on the special attacks, and even then it's still moving at about 5-6 times the speed of the same skill in the Japanese version.

There's a slight slowdown in the PSP, UMD version, when using special attacks. Pretty annoying, but you can definitely overlook this.

I've been told that the slow-down occurs on pirated ISOs that use compression, and not in the finished product. I've tested both an original and an ISO, and I can definitely affirm that the ISO runs a bit slower during the battle, but the original takes a while longer to load the maps, etc.

You forgot to mention the MASSIVE slow-down when you do anything even vaguely involving particle effects :-)
