George Takei will now live forever. At least, that’s what some people will say since he now has a heavenly body named after him. The former helmsman of the USS Enterprise has had asteroid 1994 GT9, a large rock located somewhere between Mars and Jupiter renamed in his honor as 7307 Takei.
The asteroid was originally discovered in 1994 by Japanese scientists. The name change has been approved by International Astronomical Union’s Committee On Small Body Nomenclature.
