George Lucas spoke with VH1 last week at the AFI’s 40th Anniversary at the Arclight, and said that Indy 4 will be “the best Indy flick since the first one” and calling it “tonally most like Raiders of the Lost Ark.”

He talks about the crystal skulls, which apparently are a real things with a real history and mythology. “The skulls themselves are real and a lot of the stuff in the movie is real, just like in the other movies,” Lucas continued. “We don’t base it on a lot of phony-baloney stuff. It’s all based on at least true mythology that exists today that … a certain amount of the population actually believes in.

While rumors of aliens and spaceships have surrounded this production, based on what Lucas is saying, I’m beginning to think that could all be nothing more than rumor. Making direct comparisons to “Raiders of the Lost Arc” is pretty bold move on Lucas’ part.

Here’s hoping he’s not over stating it. :P
