Link's evolution in IGN
Mention the word Link and console gaming fans will immediately know that you are referring to the iconic Nitnendo character that has graced many of the greatest adventure games ever put into pixels. Over the decades Link has undergone an evolution that reflects how gaming as a phenomenon affected the way people see video games. The classic Zelda games are some of the most favorite games ever created and Link has become not just a lovable in-game character or mascot, he has evolved into a cultural icon. With Link’s Crossbow Training set to hit stores this month, IGN has decided to come out with a great article on Link’s evolution. Read more »
Casting for Dragon Ball Z live action movie continues
Casting for the live action Dragon Ball Z continues with some very interesting choices. One of the first people to be cast was of course the actor that will play Goku and Justin Chatwin was given that honor. Chatwin does not have a very long acting resume, having only knocked appearances in Smallville and Lost. He also had a minor role in War of The Worlds. The other actor cast is James Marsters, who is well known among geek circles as the vampire Spike in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Marsters has been cast in the role of Piccolo. Kind of a weird character to play but it would be interesting Read more »
Marvel Legends '08 line shows promise
I used to collect Marvel Legends toys. I loved the way their initial lines were sculpted. Take for example the Thor figure that really captures the wrath and godly demeanor of the Norse god of war. unfortunately, the line has continually declined in quality through the years. From the great articulation around the torso, the latter lines only sported a hinge-like articulation that looks awkward and pulls the over-all look of the figure. The Marvel Legends line eventually passed on to Hasbro and there was great trepidation among the toy collecting community about the move because Hasbro has been hit and miss with action figures. The initial lines showed a Read more »
Internet to Fail by 2010?
So it looks like we broadband users are quickly putting a strain on the multiple-decade old system we call the Internet. As we download videos, music, podcasts, and other multimedia, we are using up more and more resources. This has lead some people to wonder if the Internet could eventually break down from the strain. From USA Today: The Web will start to seem pokey as early as 2010, as use of interactive and video-intensive services overwhelms local cable, phone and wireless Internet providers, a study by business technology analysts Nemertes Research has found. “Users will experience a slow, subtle degradation, so it’s back to the bad old days of Read more »
Nifty WiFi Detector Shirt
I’ve been on the lookout for cool stocking stuffers for Christmas and stumbled on what could be the coolest geek shirt on the planet. The WiFi Detector Shirt from Thinkgeek.com is not just eye-catching, it’s functional, too! The decal on the front of the shirt is a functioning WiFi detector. It can detect 802.11b or 802.11gsignals. The bars radiating from the center actually change to indicate the signal strength that it detects from the surrounding area. Who needs a WiFi detector keychain when you have this shirt? Heck, you won’t even need to open your laptop to check for signals. Just look at the front of your shirt and you’ll Read more »
Backlash over Marvel, DC legal action vs Zcult
The backlash over the strong arm tactics that Marvel and DC Comics have employed on Zcult.fm is gaining steam. Many comicbook fans have been quite incensed over the legal threats the Big Two have issued on the website. The consensus has been universal, Marvel and DC are hurting true comicbook lovers and not just random hit-and-run downloaders just in it for a quick comicbook fix. In almost every forum that I have visited, the same sentiment is being raised. Marvel and DC’s actions is a big disservice to loyal fans and they are going to show their dissatisfaction by boycotting Marvel and DC titles. Marvel and DC may have miscalculated Read more »
Six Ideas That Will Change the World
Esquire has a really cool post up entitled, Six Ideas That Will Change the World, and in it they talk about some interesting technologies and sociological changes that could quickly change the world we live in. From the article: Internet censorship is the book burning of the modern age, denying as much as a third of the world’s population access to news and information. But a new brand of activists — or “hacktivists” — are using their computer expertise to help people stranded in Web-censored countries abroad (and corporate offices and military bases at home) jump the firewall. The key innovation, developed by the University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab, is Read more »
Awesome Batman figures from DC Direct
I think I’ve mentioned before that I collect CDs and comicbooks. Well, let me just add that I also collect PC and console games, DVDs, vintage watches and action figures. I used to collect a lot of action figure lines but because of space constraints and taking notice of the suffering my wife has to go through I decided to just focus on Batman action figures, a few select Spawn figures and rock star figures as well. Okay, now that I have finished my “collectors anonymous” confession, let me just say that I am quite excited about the new action figures slated to be released by DC Direct next year. Read more »
Zcult down due to legal threat from Marvel, DC
Obsessive comicbook fans who absolutely must read every single issue that comes out from their beloved titles, or completists that want to read every single issue that is included in massive yearly crossover events can either do two things — spend a majority of their income buying comicbooks or download digitally scanned copies of the comics. For a growing number of collectors, digital comics has been a salve to soothe acute wallet burnout. They can now scan favorite titles or look for issues that they have missed. This makes them buy comics with a bit of foreknowledge, allowing them to just get issues that they really love and skip those Read more »
