I think all sequels of this movie will be bad…
They started out bad, and a justin chatwin as goku is just not gonna work…

First movie gave me a power ranger feeling, very bad acting etc
number 2 will probably be the same.

To bad, cause we could deffenitly make a great Dragonball Movie.
Let alone Dbz, that has so much potential to be greater then great.

And to add to Jambe’s remark – The Dragonball series was actually marketed towards older generations as well, it’s just the american version was heavily edited and dumbed down for kids pleasureable viewing – as is quite alot of anime to hit american shores.

Message To all of you who are here simply to trash the movie: and anime/manga:

If you don’t like anime ( or movies in live action based on anime and manga) then don’t watch it , don’t read about it , go the hell away and read or watch something none anime related.

Okay now that thats done and over with I’d like to say to the casing department…WHAT THE HELL IS THE MATTER WITH YOU?!Justin frakin Chatwin as Goku?!Are you all insane over there?James Marsters is iffy but he’s a good actor so I’m not too concerned about him playing Piccolo (it’ll certainly be intresting) but my god JUSTIN CHATWIN??? I know I sound like I hate the guy (jeez what gave that away ,right?) but I don’t , its just that for the general majority of his roles , he’s been a rather crappy actor.And looks wise, don’t even get me started (I can understand this part for James because we all know he’s gonna be covered in loads of makeup to change him into looking like Piccolo,I mean we’ve already seen pics on the web).My suggestion is Re-cast your Goku immediatly, you’ll get alot more happier fans, trust me.

Also , to Cronus , Justin did NOT play Connor (Angel’s son) on Angel, that was Vincent Kartheiser.

I used to love the fact that they would cut so much out of the dubbed episodes they would have almost ten minutes of flashbacks just to get it back up to 30min.

If they do this right it could be great fun. They could do the kind of fights the Superman movie badly lacked. They need to have a sense of fun without being a parody of itself and for fudges sake cast some asian people.

The story should be set around the world fighting championship and kind of meld together the meeting of Tien and the return of Piccalo stories, slight fudge of the timeline but better than a total rewrite.

Is America entirely unfamiliar with the concept of Shonen? The stuff is targeted to ~12 year-old boys. Don’t get me wrong, I liked DBZ when I was ten. I suppose I can see some older generations clinging to it because of fond memories from youth (much like I cling to Looney Toons), but I think you’d agree if I said the fervor surrounding kiddy-anime here is far and away more passionate than it perhaps ought to be.

There are indeed animes that don’t take 1-3 minutes of the beginning of each episode to recap the previous one, explain each piece of non-contextual information ad nauseum, or play the same battle dynamic over again and again tossing in different characters to keep children amused.

There is so much that could go wrong with this movie.

How are they going to bring the Dragonball world to life. If they don’t make it as fantastical as the series it’ll just end up as a knock-off of superman.

The fact Stephen Chow is connected gives me hope, but just a little.
