I finally got my hands on a copy of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare a few days ago. Having been busy with work, I never got to install it on my PC until last night. Actually, I was a bit afraid that my system might not be able to handle it. If jocks have “performance” anxiety, I guess we geeks have technology anxiety. We have a fear that our present setup may not be handle the ever steeper requirements for games.

Anyway, back to the game. I installed the game with no glitches on my Windows Vista partition. I then fired it up with my fingers crossed. No problems! It actually booted up and the awesome intro movie began. After this, I went to options to tweak the graphics to medium-high settings at 1024 x 768, the started the game. Except for very rare slowdowns, I was actually getting decent framerates! And I’m thankful that I am because COD4 is one hell of a game. I rarely play first person shooters because I get bored with it easily but COD4 is far from boring. From the opening set piece on the ship right down to the other action arenas in the Ukraine, this is one thrill ride. I am really getting into the game. Special mention should be given to the graphics too because it is pure eye candy. I haven’t seen Crysis in action yet but I was awed by the character models. They looked eerily real.

I think I am going to have a hard time working this week because COD4 will constantly niggle at my thoughts.
