I finally got my Asus EEE ultraportable a couple of days ago, and man, I’m loving it!
The EEE really brings a new meaning to portability to mobile devices. It may not look as svelte or as sexy as the new Macbook Air, but neither does it have the unreasonably expensive price of $1,800. For that price I could get a dedicated ASUS EEE in all of the rooms in my house including my two bathrooms.
The first time I whipped out the EEE during a meeting I had this weekend, it disrupted our discussions. Everyone wanted to find out what it was. They caressed it and tried out its weight and when I told them how much it cost ($300!) everyone wanted to get one. That’s the kind of attention this gadget is getting.
But it’s not all looks, or the cuteness factor, as I’d like to call it. The EEE does what it is designed to do excellently. Detecting Wi-Fi networks is a breeze, all of the basic productivity apps are already pre-loaded (OpenOffice, Firefox and even a GoogleDocs link), and it even has some very nifty games. It is highly customizable that I can even download a small app that would turn the image on the screen 90 degrees so I can read documents while holding the EEE like a book.
Overall, this is one of those devices that is worth more than its price. Check it out yourself and maybe we can create a growing EEE community in this here pages!
