I was about to blog about my recent Batman action figure haul that was to beef up my existing Batman collection but I’ve decided to talk about my new love for Revoltech figures instead. Revoltech figures are made by the Japanese company Kaiyodo and are known for their high degree of articulation. The figures all carry a unique joint, called a Revolver joint. This little wonder of engineering allows for a wide degree of movement that allows you to pose the figure into really fantastic poses. I’ve always been intrigued by Revoltech toys but never really took the plunge until I got the opportunity to get Mazinkaiser and Getter Robo Read more »

A satisfying Transformers toy haul
One of my hobbies aside from collecting CDs is collecting action figures. It’s a hobby that I’ve been into on and off since I was in high school. Even though I’ve drastically limited the figures I’ve collected over the years (I’m more discerning now), there are still some toy lines that I get if I fall in love with it. The recent Transformers line is one that I knew I would collect the moment I saw it. I loved the cartoon series when I was a kid and even used to collect the big Transformers toys, which I sadly had to sell when I got into comics. I didn’t like Read more »
Alan Wake Confirmed (Again) For September
In case you haven’t heard, Alan Wake is a psychological action thriller from Remedy, the developer of successful titles including Max Payne and Max Payne 2. The game is due for the Xbox 360 and PC – and has been re-confirmed once again for September 2008. The game puts the player in control of Alan Wake, a successful horror writer until he lost his muse and love (all very Silent Hill so far). He travels to Bright Falls in order to start afresh and come to terms with his loss. He writes a book about his nightmares (as you do as a successful author, as Stephen King will attest to) Read more »
Fallout 3 development nears end
I never thought it would ever happen, but it just did! Fallout 3 is nearing completion and it looks like it is going to be one awesome game. Fallout 3 was one of the more problematic titles in game development history to the point that development on the game was eventually shelved. The game was in limbo for a number of years and just laid stagnant in Interplay’s vaults until Bethesda decided to buy the game rights for a cool 5 million dollars. And now, we are about to see one of the best open ended RPGs in history as done by the best PC RPG maker on earth. You Read more »
Miller's Ronin to get movie treatment
With the success of both Sin City and 300, it’s natural for Hollywood to keep mining more of Frank Miller’s material. This means that we will be seeing Ronin get the big movie treatment in the future. It has been reported that preproduction for the Ronin movie is already underway. Scriptwriter Joby Harold is already writing the script for the live action film that will be produced by Warner Bros. Sylvain White has been chosen to direct the movie with 300 producer Gianni Nunnari co producing this new Miller adaptation. I myself would’ve loved to see the big screen adaptation of Miller’s run on Daredevil, which is probably one Read more »
The Orphanage (El Orfanato) Review
I was lucky enough to catch a screening of this movie directed by Antonio Bayona and produced by the one and only Guillermo del Toro. Almost all of del Toro’s other work (albeit with him in a director capacity) and so naturally I was expecting equally great things from this film. Unfortunately, I’m rather sad to say that I came away with a rather bitter taste in my mouth. Let me get this out of the way before I move on to discuss The Orphanage as a whole – IT IS NOT A HORROR MOVIE. Don’t get drawn in by the hype. Granted, it does have some exceptionally nerve-y moments Read more »
Star Wars: Episode IV According to a 3 Year Old
One of the most geeky, coolest, and cutest things I have ever seen: a three year old girl recounts Star Wars: Episode IV. Read more »
Tesla Roadster Enters Production
One of my loves is renewable resources, solar power, and other technology really gets me excited, but one of the biggest issues plaguing the technology is its cost and appearance. The Tesla Roadster might be expensive, but it isn’t ugly. The Tesla Roadster is an electric car that has acceleration that can push you back into your seat so hard that you can’t move your head from the headrest, and it is going into larger production than the one hundred boutique, collector vehicles that were previously sold. Tesla Motors is now taking orders for the 2009 run of the vehicle and already 900 cars have been reserved. I wonder how Read more »
Teachers are Using Comics to Captivate Reluctant Readers
As a child, I really only read Archie comics, as well as some superhero stuff (Go Marvel!), but I wasn’t interested in any longer books, and if a story went on for over two dozen pages, I found myself getting bored and moving on, but now schools and teachers are using this interest in comics, or rather graphic novels to inspire reluctant readers like myself to get interested in reading as well as learning through text. From the Miami Herald: Under the spiffier label of ”graphic novels,” these bound books feature every stripe of hero and story. “The themes and genres can range from science to biography, and from memoirs Read more »
Ubuntu 8.04 “Hardy Heron” beta
As we get closer to the April release of the next version of Ubuntu, many people are already checking out the beta and helping work out any of the kinks or issues that the operating system may have. One thing that I’ve noticed is that there hasn’t been as much excitement about Ubuntu since the last release in October of last year. What has happened since then that we aren’t seeing an even wider adoption of one of the easiest Linux distributions? Well, one thing has been the increasing attention that Apple is getting with their products, as well as Windows continually trying to fix their Vista mess, but I Read more »
