This is the worst music player that I have ever had.
You failed to mention that there is no shuffle option (surely a basic essential).
That if you set the player to 'sleep' after (after an hour, for example when going to sleep) then the next time you turn it on it will turn off automatically and considering how long it takes to turn on this is unbelievably annoying.
The files are not listed in alphabetic order so when you search through Artists/Albums it is a nightmare.
The buttons are rubbish, sod that for a nice design. The slow response time makes tuning in Radio stations something of a traumatic experience and there is no 'scroll to find station automatically' function (whatever you would call that).
The lag is insanely irritating.
There are more basic music players that are cheaper and have a better design.
What I will say is that the sound is very good, and the speakers are better than the iPod. I don't see the speakers as being a huge bonus though because the quality of music player speakers will never be good or loud enough to function without external speakers anyway.
I was so disappointed with iRiver, I've raved about them to everyone and always favoured them over Apple. I've held out on getting an iPod for years because I was always able to find something better but this player has literally broken my spirt and I may just have to give in...

It supports OGG and FLAC so that's nice for Linux users, however the iRiver + 3 software used to load the darn thing doesn't work on Linux (not even under Wine).

So its pretty useless to Linux users that actually want to do fancy things like use playlists.

Ok, if there was an amazon alike question about reviews asking:

"Was this review helpful to you?"
The answer would definitely be NO.

One needs to read more on sound quality (testing equipment and comparison with other mp3 players, fm reception, GUI, etc.)

This review is even worst than the Akiahabara news review. Review something taht you don't have to review, is the way to go.

"The audio quality is very good thanks to the SRS WOW HD technology the player uses"

This make me laugh

I absolutely hate interface lag, there's nothing worse. It's either sloppy programming or the processor is too slow...
