One of the most critically lauded games last year was Crytek’s Crysis. It garnered a lot of awards from various gaming publications and websites because of its visual stunning graphics and fast, immersive gameplay. But despite all of the accolades. Crytek (makers of Crysis) was actually having some issues with the PC industry. According to Crytek founder Cevat Yerli, the rampant piracy in the PC industry is really hurting the company, especially since, as Yerli shared, Crytek’s games looks to be pirated the most. This situation has led the company to reconsider its PC exclusivity policy. Yevat said that in the future it will not PC exclusive games like Read more »

I knew I heard his name before. I think I was a college senior when I first heard the ReiserFS filesystem. Flashback on Linux101 days… here’s the news as I have read from The Wired Blog Network :OAKLAND, California — Jurors found Linux programmer Hans Reiser guilty of first degree murder on Monday for killing his estranged wife in 2006. The verdict was made after nearly a six-month trial and nearly three days of deliberation The case was handled by Alameda County Superior Court Judge Larry Goodman. Microsoft release Messenger 7 for Mac
Messenger for Mac is largely considered the “bastard” child of one of the world’s most used IMs. Although other messengers are already several steps ahead with video and audio-chat support, Microsoft has decided time, and time again, to leave these features exclusive for their Windows desktop version. This new version allows you to use the Office Communications Server 2007 for video audio/chat, but I’m guessing that very few of you will ever use that service. On the other hand, some new features which you are likely to use include: editing your contact’s names, and searching for contacts using the new search field on the contact list. The blog entry regarding Read more »
Windows Release Service Pack 3 for XP
It’s been a long time in the making, there was even an unofficial SP3 made by fans, due to popular demand, but it’s finally here. The last major upgrade we’ll ever receive for our beloved, or at least tolerable, Windows XPs. Unlike Sp2, this upgrade doesn’t bring as many changes to the interface, as most things are done under the hood. It features a very large amount of bug fixes, improves connectivity a bit, but only large corporations will really take advantage of that. Amazingly, I was unable to find a dedicated page for SP3 to give you more details, but essentially that’s what you’ll find. It’s sad to see Read more »
Hot or Cold… now see for yourself!
Would you like to know if the tap is cold or dry? Years ago, you would venture a quick palm or finger swab (painful yes) because it’s the only way to find out before you venture your sweet skin. Well brace yourself, the ultimate GEEK can now attatch a thingamajig and viola… how cool is that! While I wouldn’t be a fan of the red led light (representing warm water), I’d say OK, I’d still venture into this fab. I could just hear the ladies shriek to an April fool’s joke… no blood in the lady’s sink please! It’s available now on thinkgeek.com … right here to be exact. Sells between Read more »
New Raving Rabbids game could use Balance Board
Ubisoft has something up its sleeve and it looks like the third Raving Rabbids game for the Wii. For anyone who owns Nintendo’s top selling console, Rayman’s Raving Rabbids is one of the best and funniest games in its game lineup. The quirky sense of humor that permeates every single one of the mini-games in the title is enough to keep you in stitches when you watch other people play the game. But you’ll also discover that actually playing it can give you one hell of an upper body workout. The physicality of the Raving Rabbids games only means that the Nintendo Wii Balance Board is the perfect peripheral Read more »
MGS4 online beta resumes
One of the most hotly anticipated games this year is Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots. One feature that is getting players excited is the online multiplayer component of the game, which was announced last February (along with the June 12 release date for the game). Sony announced that an open beta will be offered beginning April. The beta program was finally opened a week ago but, to the disappointment of many, it was immediately closed again. Apparently, the interest in the game was so huge that the servers could not cope up. The good news is that it is now back online. Sony has patched the Read more »
MSI announces the Wind – an Atom-powered laptop
MSI recently announced a very small Intel Atom processor-powered laptop that is surely meant to compete with the popular Asus EEE. This new laptop will have either an 8.9″ or a 10″ LED lit LCD screen, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU, 80GB of HDD, 1GB of RAM and a 1.3 Megapixel camera. Compared to the Asus, it has much more capacity, but on the other hand, it uses a standard hard drive. It will come with Windows XP pre-loaded, so it will at the very best, be as cheap as the Asus EEE. Even so, for these devices, I think that a flash-based hard drive is a much better choice. Microsoft brings IRC-like group chats to Messenger
Some of our young readers probably don’t know what IRC is, but in short, it was a chat program where people could join channels and chat regarding it’s theme. Most channels were for small groups of friends, but eventually groups emerged to chat about common interests. In an attempt to bring back this old/new type of social-networking, Microsoft is beta testing a new Live Messenger functionality called “Messenger Groups“. Groups allows you to create a virtual chatroom that will always be available for those who wish to join it, or those you wish to invite. You’re not obligated to join it, but getting in is as easy and double clicking Read more »
Grabit Pack: The Gadget-Friendly Holster
I can consider myself a bag geek. While I don’t have dozens and dozens of bags in my collection (yet!), I’m always on the lookout for cases and bags where I can fit my gadgets into. I usually carry around a digital SLR, an ultraportable (the Asus Eee), and when space permits, a few extra lenses (one prime 50mm and another superzoom 75-300mm), and a speedlite. I’ve been sent a few samples of the Grabit Pack for review, and I thought to myself this would be an excellent tool for the (wannabe?) photographer in me. You see, lugging along a camera backpack or shoulder bag for extra lenses or flashes Read more »
