Depending on which territory you live in, you may know the game series as either Project Zero or Fatal Frame. Either way, it remains one of the most creepy video games you’ll ever play – how many other series have you creeping around with nought but a flashlight before moving on to a camera? Exactly.
Interestingly, the next game in the series is to be an exclusive release for the Nintendo Wii – a good move if you ask me. The brains behind No More Heroes (Suda 51) is sharing directing duties with Shibata Makoto, with Nintendo being the publisher behind it. As this is a pretty high profile title, expect the launch to get a lot of press. It is dated for 31st July for Japan – not sure about other territories but they should follow quite quickly behind.
So why should this be good? Well, judging by the screenshots over at Gamespot this looks to be one of the most visually polished games that the Wii has ever seen – it should be up there with such greats as Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. Not only that, but the whole concept of using the Wiimote for control really fits – as your ‘weapon’ is a camera, it brings a whole new meaning to point and shoot.
In my opinion, it should be a great addition to the (somewhat lacking) adult and hardcore games on the Wii. If it is good enough, it might even bring me to buy one. For those of you who haven’t played Fatal Frame (or Project Zero) before, I can certainly recommend it – though perhaps not if you’re faint of heart. The ghosts are genuinely spooky and look like they’ve just walked off the set of The Ring…
