With all of the hoopla surrounding Grand Theft Auto IV, other intriguing movements in the gaming front have been largely ignored. For example, Blizzard has quietly “acquired” the Diablo3.com domain name. The original user of the domain, mainly a Diablo fansite, announced that it will be changing its name to diablofans.com at the request of Blizzard.
As a way of quelling the attendant rumors that such a move will create, the original diablo3.com owners also said that this should in no way mean an announcement of Diablo 3.
Of course, even with such a disclaimer, fans have already started speculations about a possible announcement of Diablo 3 especially with the Blizzard Invitational two months away. Last year’s event saw the announcement of Starcraft 2 so tongues are really wagging at this point. A Blizzard representative has already come out to deny that there will be an announcement forthcoming. But fanboys don’t really listen to such things anyway so the rumors continue.
