With Iron Man firmly opening the summer blockbuster season with a cool $109 million box office take in North America, the next Marvel superhero movie in the pipeline has its work cut out for it.
A lot of pressure is going to be put on The Incredible Hulk starring Edward Norton and directed by Louis Leterrier and if internal struggles are to be believed that pressure has started even before the final cut has been approved. According to rumors, Norton and Leterrier wanted a cut of the movie that was “meditative”, character driven and will clock in at two and a half hours. But Marvel Entertainment executives wanted the most commercial movie that they can make — one that is filled with action sequences and will run for just an hour and a half. Norton has already issued a statement denying the rumors. But I think there is truth to the infighting. Norton is not the type of guy who would want to appear in a straight popcorn flick. I am a big fan of the Ang Lee Hulk and Norton’s and Leterrier’s take on the big green monster is what I am hoping to see. I don’t want to leave my brain outside the theater when I watch a movie and a dumbed down version is definitely not something I will support.

1I whole heartedly disagree.
I think the first failed miserably because it misrepresented itself.
Some superhero movies can get away with depth, but this is the big green Hulk that destroys everything in sight and that is as deep as most people want; me included.
Don’t get me wrong it may be possible to give the big green guy depth, ala. King Kong, but I’d much rather see Hulk smash than cry.
That’s just my humble opinion.

2Yeah.. definitely not a sequel. Superman Returns wasn’t a sequel to the original Superman, was it? This is a restart of the franchise.

3No-one wants to see the Hulk cry, but Banner is a broken man – he’s literally in two parts. That’s what we want to see, more of an emotional struggle, than a huge breakout as the Hulk is unleased. That’s certainly what the trailer looks to provide so far and I can’t wait to see it.

4Call it a sequel, call it a reboot — but the bottomline for me is that Ang Lee did a hell of a job with his Hulk. I agree with Mr. Butterscotch, Banner’s story is about an inner personal turmoil that just happens to manifest itself as a green monster. I’ve also seen the trailer and I am hoping that a happy medium is reached between fans who wanted depth and great character development and those who want to see Hulk smash.
If given a choice though, I’d always go for the former. I don’t want dumbed down versions of my superheroes.

6I definitely would like to see more depth in this movie (I’m actually going to see it today). There really just needs to be more internal struggle in this on(I was disappointed in the last one, as were we all), after all it is an internal beast inside him and yadda yadda. I have very high hopes seeing our starring actor being Edward Norton. I was very impressed with his work in “Fight Club” and I believe he really plays the tormented rolls very well

7I’ve seen the movie, with norton playing.
i thought he even did look a bit like the old banner from the tv series.
And yes, he gave the green hulk some more depth, i thought for one second that i was seeing a duplicate scene from king kong, which gave the hulk some more personality. (GREAT JOB THERE!). And hmm ofcourse an open end, so a sequel must be comming soon…….
Banner/Hulk did a great performing. Thought that this was the ULTIMATE HULK movie, forget the first hulk movie which totally not came close with the tv series and did too tooooo much of everything. A hulk too big to be green…..
throw it into the trashcan =>the first old hulk movie from 2003 )
Annyways, this movie, with Norton is to be THE ONE AND ONLY GOOD HULK MOVIE!!! ……..hopefully part 2 meets the same quallity…..
