Sony has finally confirmed month long rumors about a major update to the Playstation 3. According to Sony officials, Update 2.4 will contain the much desired PS3 trophies system, which is similar to the achievement system on the Xbox 360. The second major change is the ability to access the XrossMediaBar or XMB in-game. This will now allow players to access their friends’ list, messages and invites even while in the middle of playing a game.

But hold your horses, PS3 fanboy. Update 2.4 still has no definite release date. And even before it is releaseed, Sony will issue Update 2.36 first, which will further improve system stability when playing some Playstation titles.
