Perhaps one of the best things about the DS is the sheer variety of gameplay on offer, which means that over this Christmas you shouldn’t have any problem at all either finding a present for yourself or for a loved one! This year, look out for the brilliant Professor Layton And The Curious Village for something a bit special. It’s an adventure game with a huge puzzle element – that will have your brain working for weeks trying to complete all of the many challenges. Other particularly good games for the festive season this year include Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia – an actioner that will keep you busy. Alternatively, if Read more »

Games To Avoid This Christmas
I’ve provided this article for two reasons. The first is let you know whether you’ve been landed with a complete stinker of a game from a relative. The second is to avoid you making suggestions to your nearest and dearest on games that you’ll come to regret – just in case you haven’t been following the reviews this year! There is no doubt that there’s been some good games released in 2008, but equally there’s been a few mediocre ones out there. Avoid, if you can, Iron Man (perhaps like the infamous ET game they should bury all copies somewhere). Equally, there are better racing games than Need for Speed: Read more »
iPhone Gold
An iPhone is an iPhone, well until it’s dipped in gold! When I first saw the picture above I said, “wow, this must be worth a fortune!” . Well, not really. Unlike the Christian Dior Mobile phone which costs about $28,000, the Gold iPhone will set you back only $2,000. For a 24 karat gold plated iPhone, I think it’s worth it. Every iPhone gold unit is first coated with the original plastic case in copper to patch any dings, then nickel-plates it to keep the copper from leaching into the gold finish. A notch in the base for the antenna guarantees reception. A very tedious process to get that Read more »
Mario Red DS Lite to launch on Black Friday
I’m a Super Mario Bros. fan, always have and always will be. It’s been a favorite game for over a decade now. I remember the first time I played it on a Nintendo set, I’d play it for hours and hours. Now during Black Friday, November 28, Nintendo is releasing a special red version of their Nintendo DS Lite pocket console game. This merchandise will quickly fly off the shelves not only because of its bright red color, but because of that cute Mario logo on top of it. Aside from the Mario edition, Nintendo will also release an Ice Blue system that comes packed with Brain Age 2. Both Read more »
F.E.A.R. sequel banned in Australia
I dunno what it is with Australian censors but games have a lot of trouble passing their weird standards. A number of games had already been banned this year, including the new Silent Hill game and Shellshock 2. Two other games, Dark Sector and Fallout 3, were also banned but were eventually allowed to go on sale after content modifications were made. The censorship continues with F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin, the sequel to the hit FPS F.E.A.R. Australia’s Classification Board refused the game making it illegal to sell or even bring the game into the country. The Board said that the basis for the refusal was the game’s “high-impact violence”. Read more »
Black Friday Tips
Thanksgiving isn’t thanksgiving at all without the day-after tradition of Black Friday. In the USA we’re flooded with TV/radio/print ads full of coupons and special markers telling us all to fall in line real early. Shops nationwide are opening by 5am to welcome customers in. I’d expect the lines to build up at 11pm-1am. You have to be there to get decent products, otherwise it’ll all be gone. Let me share with you a few tips just in case you decide to camp-out (say at BestBuy or Target) right after Thanksgiving night. Tip #1 : Warm clothing : We’re all expecting a low of about 23 degrees in our area Read more »
Motorola ZN5 for “free” this weekend
Here’s a deal that certainly isn’t one to pass up. With all the bargains and special programs for the consumer IT IS a huge task to shop around these days. When everyone else cries 50% discount, T-Mobile says FREE. Yep, they’re giving away Motorola ZN5s for free. The “only” catch there is you have to shell out $99, but that comes back to you after your mail-in rebate. It’s actually free with a 2-year contract… but just after a mail-in rebate. If you’re shopping around for a phone, this may be one to consider. It’s available now at your T-Mobile outlets in the USA. The MOTOZINE™ ZN5 is built to Read more »
Guitar Hero World Tour Guitar Hands-on
I was quite stoked when I finally opened my Guitar Hero World Tour Guitar Bundle. Finally, I’ll be able to play guitars again after my Rock Band guitar conked out. I have to say that Activision did a relatively good job with the new Guitar Hero Guitar. The guitar feels sturdier and looks very “adult”. You won’t feel like an idiot if you’re seen playing this baby. The face plate of the guitar is interchangeable so those who want a snazzier guitar can actually buy new faceplates for it. I love the new touch-sensitive strip that has been incorporated as a new gameplay element. When you see a series of Read more »
Region-specific DLC's from Sony, a big letdown
I finally got a guitar bundle of Guitar Hero World Tour. My excitement was tempered by the fact that it’s a Region 4 release. What this means is that I won’t be able to buy any kind of downloadable content from the US Playstation store. Apparently, DLC’s are region-specific, so if you have a region 4 disc, like I do, then tough luck. You’ll have to find a way of buying content from the Australian Playstation store. I think this is one of the things that Sony has to work on soon. True compatibility is so dismal that something as simple as downloading content should not be a problem anymore. Read more »
Across the board price cut for the Zunes
Yes, you read it right. Just when you thought good deals are losing foot these days, surprise surprise. The Zunes just got cheaper. Across the board their price cuts from about $20-$30 for their 8 and 16 GB models. Good news for parents who would want MP3 players as gifts for their kids this Christmas. I hope Apple and other manufacturers follow this. The big capacity Zunes, however, same price. Here’s a quick brush of the Zune prices: Zune 4GB – $99.99 Zune 8GB – $139.99 Zune 16GB – $179.99 Aside from the Zunes, accessories for Zunes also got a price cut. Check out the Zune Dock Pack and the Read more »
