Dead Space Review

Dead Space

Format: PC, PS3, Xbox360 Available: Now Price: $50 Score: 8/10 Dead Space was one of the bigger games to be released last year, and arguably the biggest game out of EA. It is a new title (and possibly franchise to-be) set in a future where man has managed to reach space and it is firmly in the survival horror camp – with a strong emphasis on horror. Storyline The main plot involves Isaac Clarke (the character you play throughout), Kendra Daniels and Zach Hammond travelling out to the USG Ishimura to find out the reason behind a distress call being received. In an attempt to dock, an accident takes place Read more »

Dlink DCS-1130 wireless/motorized webcam

Dlink DCS-1130 wireless/motorized webcam

(photo by Engadget) Ah, finally… a motorized webcam! I could think of several uses for this, but probably one of the most glaring ones would be to easily monitor from all angles. The Dlink DCS-1130 is the world’s first motorized camera allowing remote control from anywhere in the world… errr, online of course! It is motorised for pan/tilt adjustment, wireless and can be controlled via a web browser. It can store videos on a PC, send it through the internet OR send it to 3G phones (now that means on-the-road monitoring). If you’re out for a movie and the babysitter is at home, guess who’s connected to your kids in Read more »

The Popoplug

The Popoplug

I know… the name is a little funny! But ‘ya know, what it does isn’t funny at all. In fact it’s seriously useful. In fact it’s seriously simple. In fact it’s seriously a must-have for people who want to stay connected to their files, even while they’re “on-the-go”. Ok, am babbling a little, but let me give you the gist in a sentence. Popoplug is a gadget you plug your USB drive into and all the data are accessible online, instantly. That’s right, simply plug popoplug into your router AND you can easily access your files online. What’s great about Popoplug is that there’s no monthly fees whatsoever. Oh no, Read more »

BenQ GP1 : The palm-top DLP

This fits snugly in the palm of your hands, really! BenQ has developed the GP1 model in their digital projector line, actually crowd stirring as it has been a spotlight gadget-to-have at CES. The “palm-top” unit, announced at CES, boasts a host of inputs including a USB port, plenty of color management options, and an impressive throw. Hey, did you read that (?) USB! What this does is pc-less operations. You need not bring a laptop or even a desktop. All one needs to do is plug-in your USB drive, select the file you want to view and off you go with your presentation. Price? Roughly around US$600. Not bad Read more »

JVC Everio Camcorders with 2 SD slots

JVC Everio Camcorders with 2 SD slots

I must admit, this is the first video camera I saw with a dual SD card slot. Now what would that be for, you may ask? Oh, it would be for a lot of things. Mainly for additional storage. You see, when you’re on the road trip you’d rarely have time to switch cards (if you have any extra) OR quickly zip up a connection with your portable (if you have any) to unload the pictures or videos you took. Thank goodness JVC has thought about this situation and has developed the Everio Camcorder line. Now I was told that this new line will be available by March 2009. With Read more »

RIP Electronic Gaming Monthly

RIP Electronic Gaming Monthly

Electronic Gaming Monthly is one of the old guards in the electronic gaming media. It’s been providing gamers with news and scoops on gaming for almost two decades now. It’s been publishing for so long that I always thought that I’ll be able to get copies of EGM when I’m old and gray. But apparently the changing landscape of technology media has turned EGM from a pioneer to a victim. The Ziff-Davis owned publication will be releasing its final issue this January just shy of achieving its 20th year anniversary. The reason for the cancellation has been attributed to a corporate reshuffling at Ziff Davis when the company sold the Read more »

Unlimited Instant Movies with Roku + Netflix

Unlimited Instant Movies with Roku + Netflix

The Roku Box Roku is a set-top box that plays Netflix movies. The box itself costs about $100. It enables you to watch unlimited “instant” movies via the Netflix service for less than $10 per month. Unfortunately, the movie selection available for “instant” viewing over the Internet leaves something to be desired. If it weren’t for XBox 360 relationship with Netflix, the sheer quality of this product would bring me to predict marketshare dominance for Roku. However, that remains to be seen, given the current market penetration that XBox 360 has. Getting Roku setup was a breeze. It took me all of 3 minutes (including the unboxing!). The user menus Read more »
