NetFlix "streaming only" option

NetFlix "streaming only" option

I’ve been totally ignoring all Netflix mail (post and electronic) telling me to subscribe and all to check out their library of videos. Sure, I’m a RedBox fan, but that’s not the only reason I’m avoiding Netflix though. With the “streaming only” option, I may turn a keen eye on trying out a free season of Netflix. Rumors about this streaming only package circulated last week, and I guess it was put to rest when the company CFO Barry McArthy said last Wednesday that they’re most likely to do that in the foreseeable future. I think this is a great move and one that prepares for streaming savvy video watchers Read more »

Eye-Fi upgrades to 4GB with video

Eye-Fi upgrades to 4GB with video

One of the many things I admire in the tech world are revolutionary tech products that is so high above other products within its league that it is just plain outstanding. I’m talking about the Eye-Fi wireless SD Card. Such a simple yet useful device that turns your digital cameras into gadgets of wonder. Imagine your regular digital camera given the capability to upload photos via wifi to your wifi-enabled computers. It doesn’t end there though, it also has the capability to upload it directly online (to YouTube, Picasa, Kodak, Flickr). Now that’s a classy gadget! Today, they made an upgrade to their standard 2GB Eye-Fi SD cards. They’ve gone Read more »

Free 2004 Build Of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. free 2004 build

In a move that has almost never happened before, the Ukranian developer GSC Game World has decided to release a very early build of S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shaodw of Chernobyl that predates the final release by two and a half years. The version of the game – ‘xrCore’ build 1935, dated October 18th 2004 – is available from several links online, but visit here for a reliable download. Several levels that were cut from the final game, including Dead City, Swamp and Generators, are available to play in the build. It’s described as “playable”, although GSC says emphatically that it doesn’t guarantee stability or fitness, and won’t provide technical support for it. Read more »

Belkin's "clamp on" surge protection

Belkin's "clamp on" surge protection

I do remember the time when I would screw my surge protector to the back of my office table so I can: one, have easy access to all my power outlets… and two, so i don’t need to bend over to find it and have my ass sticking out! har har! And ten years after, my main motivation would still be the latter as it’s a bigger ass now! Read more »

The Palm Treo Pro

The Palm Treo Pro

Now isn’t this a pretty little thing! I remember my first Palm product was the Palm IIIC and boy did I flash it around the conference room. It was so useful back then, and it didn’t have all the bells and whistles we “need” now like GPS, wifi, those pretty user interfaces … and did I mention it was just a PDA? The Palm Treo Pro is all what the Palm IIIC PDA was about and a million times more. I say this because it definitely is a big technology leap. The biggest good news is that after a few launch delays, the Palm Treo Pro is now shipping from Read more »

2GB flash disk fur… errr… drive

2GB flash disk fur… errr… drive

This has got to be the strangest design for a USB flash drive I’ve seen so far (and if you have anything stranger still, do tell us!).??? Not to worry though as no feline was harmed at all.? It’s fake cat tail, that’s all there is.? Though I’m not to sure if your dog or cat would believe you, and I wouldn’t try sticking it in your PC or laptop and leave it with your pets.? I’m sure you’d see it shredded with your digital files by day’s end. It’s available “on-request” right here. I haven’t seen it listed there at all, so who knows if this is just a Read more »

Thumbs Up For This Thumb Drive

Thumbs Up For This Thumb Drive

Talk about weird USB flash disks! I thought that I had seem them all – various balls, cartoon characters, die cast cars, and more. Yet this thumb drive from Geek Stuff 4 U tops them all. See that? And you thought I meant “thumb drive” in the usual sense of the word! Also known as the Yakuza finger, this removable storage device is literally in the form of a thumb. Can anyone guess why? I was just wondering why they chose “Yakuza” when they could very well have named the flash drive from any other group with similar (supposed) activities. Maybe because it was conceptualized and made in Japan? Anyhow, Read more »

What Geeks I Do On Vacation

What Geeks I Do On Vacation

Today is the start of my 5-day vacation at the beach. I have been planning on this for months and now that I am actually here, it seems a bit surreal. But you know what? I am having the time of my life. I just realized something though? I seem to be doing things a bit differently from the rest of the people here are doing. Here are some of my observations. New viral site drums up interest for Bioshock 2

New viral site drums up interest for Bioshock 2

Bioshock fans who loved the first game, rejoice! If viral teaser sites that have popped up on the net can be believed, we are about to get more details and possibly the imminent arrival of the sequel to the hit game — Bioshock 2: Sea of Dreams. It’s no surprise that the sequel to Bioshock is currently being developed by 2K Marin. But details about the new game has not been readily available until lately. A visit at the site somethinginthesea.com, which has just recently gone live, will show you an image of an old world map that has an X mark located in the western coast of Ireland. The Read more »

This wrist phone at least looks great

This wrist phone at least looks great

I already had my rant about the LG wrist wratch phone, but this concept design of a wrist wratch Bluetooth phone (Try saying that 10 times without stuttering!), I must admit looks cool. Designer Pedro Gomez calls it _technically_ a bracelet with watch and phone. When someone calls, the bracelet rings and/or vibrates. The entire face pops out as a wireless headset without sacrificing a screen since there’s a secondary LCD. Both LCDs are touch enabled. Read more »
