Microsoft GeoSynth: like Google Street View but with you doing the hard work

Microsoft GeoSynth: like Google Street View but with you doing the hard work

Microsoft looks set to continue nipping at Google’s heels like an annoying little dog by getting you, the humble citizen, to do the hard work and help build Redmond giants answer to Street View. In fairness, there’s a lot of technology behind GeoSynth, which will feed a huge range of geotagged photos into a Virtual Earth and PhotoSynth mashup. Seems the idea is that if enough people take a picture of a particular location, PhotoSynth can build up a pretty realistic digitised version. Stitch thousands of these together and you have something a bit like Street View, except without Microsoft driving around taking photos itself. Read more »

Protect your car by "ugly-fying" it

Protect your car by "ugly-fying" it

This has got to be one of the craziest ideas I’ve heard so far. An idea that would discourage anyone from stealing your car. If you drive a 2008-2009 model of any brand AND just couldn’t afford too much insurance on your prized possession, hey, you may opt to “ugly-fy” your car and opt-in to a lesser insurance bracket. These are stickers that graphically project rust and other wear and tear condition a 10-15 year old car could have. Call it the scars of time. The only downside I see is when you actually want to flash your car around… like say, on a date! These stickers doesn’t seem to Read more »

Motion controller Gametrax Freedom featured at GDC

Motion controller Gametrax Freedom featured at GDC

The ongoing Game Developers Conference 2009 is, as expected, turning out a wealth of interesting news and developments in the gaming front. One of the more surprising exhibitions in the GDC is the unveiling of the Gametrak Freedom, a new motion controller that is being developed for both the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3. News about the Gametrak Freedom first appeared last September but this is the first time that an actual product is being presented to the public. The Gametrak Freedom kind of borrows the design layout of Nintendo’s Wii-mote but carries the color scheme of the Xbox 360 (the reason for this could be that the product Read more »

T-Mobile 3G/Wi-Fi USB

T-Mobile 3G/Wi-Fi USB

I’m a T-Mobile user and I’m really happy that rumors are circulating about T-Mobile’s 3G laptop USB sticks. I think I’d head on to the T-Mobile kiosk tomorrow for a looksie and a confirmation. I’m just a little too tired that it’s AT&T who’s spread out in Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts and umm… Subway. Now… I can use the internet everywhere. Oh… rumors have said that this service will be available in a few hours… so watch out for it! Read more »

RFID tags enable world's first Internet-connected magazine

RFID tags enable world's first Internet-connected magazine

Bridging the gap between traditional print media and the Internet at a very opportune time comes AMUSEMENT magazine, claiming to be the first periodical to offer content linked both on paper and online. Big deal, you might think. Any printed magazine these days publishes its web address and readers can visit online and interact. Sure, that’s true, but what if the magazine had a unique RFID (Radio frequency identification) chip attached to it, and even its own email address and mailbox? Read more »

Cute Asian Girl MP3 Player

Cute Asian Girl MP3 Player

Chinavision Electronics has released this awesomely cute, and very small, bun girl necklace MP3-player. At less than 2″ high and around 1″ wide, with 3 easy control buttons on the back, I can imagine Hello Kitty lovers, anime fans and Japanese girls having this around their neck. The MP3-player comes with 1GB memory and has a built-in Li-ion battery (rechargeable via USB). Priced at $13.13 only, the only thing we can say is… WIN!. Just like we did yesterday in our forums about the sexy micro speakers. More pictures after the jump. Read more »

USB 3-in-1 Rota-Rota Combo Hub

USB 3-in-1 Rota-Rota Combo Hub

Like you I also tilted my head and exclaimed “now what would this contraption be…”. It is a little odd, isn’t it. But hey, there are things that are made with a purpose and for this combo hub it is this: While you’re using 1-3 of your USB flash drives you may have the urge of checking out the temperature in celsius or fahrenheit. Using 3 USB flash drives side-by-side can produce heat to “melt” them down. Seriously, I kinda thought this was a little clunky for a hub station. It seems that the USB cable isn’t long enough to store away from your workstations. If this be the case, Read more »

Tako Luka Figma

Tako Luka Figma

With Luka Megurine’s rapid rise in popularity following her release back in January, the Vocaloid has gained huge amounts of fanart. Soon after Luka’s release, one fan created Tako Luka (“tako” literally means “octopus” so “Tako Luka” = “Octo-Luka”), and now we have a Tako Luka Figma. Yes, it’s a giant head, and yes, it has tentacles, but that’s what makes it awesome. I was actually fooled for a few seconds by this clever photoshop, but there are hints that give it away (like Vocaloid being spelled Gyucailoid in the bottom right). Not to mention that there’s nothing about Tako Luka on the figma or Max Factory websites. Read more »
