When I first heard of a new Silent Hill game a week ago, I dismissed it, thinking that it was some sort of early April Fools joke. That was the same sentiment I had when I heard about Sony cutting the price of the Playstation 2 to $99.99. But apparently, the joke was really on me because it turned out that both these reports were true.
Konami has announced that it is preparing a remake of the original Silent Hill game, the seminal game that, to my mind, really brought horror action adventure to new level (sorry Resident Evil). The first Silent Hill was released way back in 1999 for the original Playstation console. The new game will be called Silent Hill” Shattered Memories and will be made available for the Wii, Playstation 2, and PSP fall this year.
Konami insists that Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is not a remake but rather a reimagining. The game will again star Harry Mason as he searches Silent Hill in order to find his daughter. But this is where the similarity with the original ends. There will be new additions to be put in place on this version of the game. Konami said that Shattered Memories will have a new “interactive user interface” as well as a modified puzzle system.
The most radical change though will be the psych profile system. In this system, the answers you give will affect how the game unfolds. The game will also be vigilantly observing your actions and behavior and how you behave will determine if you will meet certain characters and which scenes you will see.
In addition to this, the Wii version of Silent Hill: Shattered Memories will make full use of the Wii-mote. The controller will be used as a stand-in for both a flashlight and a cell phone.
