I call my inner geek and try to fix things myself. Embarrassingly enough, I have to say that I fail more than I would like to. Second option: call brother-in-law who is really much better at fixing things anyway. If you’re in Britain, though, you have another option – a mainstream one, if I may say so: call Sir Richard Branson’s posse of tech handymen. The news is that this prolific businessman has entered the technical support arena. Virgin Group has reportedly set up and launched a new company which offers service in this regard. Services include an online “self help” guide which will instruct consumers on how to do Read more »

Reinventing McDonald's for Fashion Week 2010
First, we give credit where it is due, and a big hats off to the Bill Tikos and the rest of The Cool Hunter blog as they launch Access Agency, a transformative marketing and creatives agency. Here is something they’re doing for McDonald’s. First is McFancy, an upmarket temporary McDonald’s store that launches at Fashion Weeks around the globe — London, New York, Paris, Milan, Sydney, Hong Kong. McFancy is part art installation, gathering spot and, of course, a restaurant that offers a traditional McDonald’s menu but packaged in a way that makes a playful yet stylish nod to the lifestyle of the highly desirable, influential consumers that attend Fashion Read more »
Transformers: War for Cybertron out in 2010
This is sick!! As far as I can recall there’s never been a Transformers franchise that has been successfully converted into a game. Till this. Yes people we’re looking not just at a the most idealistic approach to a Transformers game, we’re looking at something that aims to become part of the Transformers canon. All the events, characters, places — the complete lore within TF:WFC forms aims to put together one complete story arc that puts the latest movie series to shame (oh wait, everything else puts the movie to shame if you think about it). Transformers: War for Cybertron will be based on the Unreal engine and have some Read more »
ZAGGsparq: Mobile USB charger stores 4 iPhone charges
Introducing ZAGGsparq. From the makers of the Invisible Shield, this portable charger has a charm of its own. A while back I featured the IDAPT I3, a dock that can charge three custom devices simultaneously in one neat layout. On the other side of the stable of mobile chargers we have this Macbook-esque charger except that it’s in black. The ZAGGsparq charges can charge two USB powered devices simultaneously, while also charging itself. This is because the charger itself is designed to “store” four full charges for the iPhone, in essence creating a series of “wells” for extra charges to reside. This means that you can essentially keep an iPod Read more »

Multiple gadget charging with the IDAPT I3 solution
Last week I made my way to an “everything must go” sale. It’s a once a year thing for a local distributor of gadgets and accessories and it’s turned many a geek into violent alpha males as they squabble over USD $89 5th gen iPod nanos. I for one am overflowing with iPods (I currently am on my fourth iPod) so I was immune to this infection. What I did find was a stock of IDAPT chargers — there were about 7 left as the sale was ending at midnight (I arrived at 10:00PM). Have you seen these? They’re fairly new. The IDAPT I3 is really a simple concept implemented Read more »
Right2Link: Keep web linking free
What’s one of the basic philosophies of the Internet? The link. By nature, websites are interlinked and content is discovered. Search engines link based on user queries, bloggers publish critique and commentary, and we can drift either aimlessly or with a purpose around cyberspace for hours and hours. Simply following links. So when the link is threatened by bureaucrats in repressed organisations that either don’t get the Internet, or want to play in it on their own terms, it’s time to sit up and take notice. I’ve seen some pretty stupid “linking policies” over time, but they’re usually published by small websites and are a good source of ridicule. When Read more »
Desk Genie: All-in-one cellphone stand, charger, USB hub, card reader
When you’re after an all-singing, all-dancing desktop accessory offering multiple functions, you could do worse than investing in a Desk Genie. First up, it’s a stand for your mobile phone. It uses a high-tech rubber sticky surface that holds your cellphone in place yet leaves no marks on the handset. It comes with multiple charger tips so, no matter what brand of cellphone you have, you can recharge the battery. There are also two USB ports and four card reader slots, so you can transfer data and charge or use all your USB gadgets as well. It’s all powered via USB, and if you want to use it on mains Read more »
A seasonal shareware registration reminder
I hold my hands up and admit that I’ve been using a piece of shareware software without registering and paying for it. In fact, I paid for an earlier version, lost the registration number somewhere along the line during a hardware upgrade, emailed the company for a new one and received it, lost it again, then downloaded an updated version that required a new purchase anyway… You get the picture. I really am planning on paying for the software — it’s not expensive and it’s definitely one of my favourites. Lemke Software, who makes the Mac-only GraphicConverter, don’t nag for registration, but instead gradually increase the amount of time that Read more »
Modern Warfare 2's Unlimited Ammo: Crazy Insane
It’s crazy insane within Modern Warfare 2 for the XBOX 360. If you’re running private matches and all of a sudden the ammo count on your Akimbo P90′s doesn’t deplete, well well well, you’ve been hit by a virus that does exactly that — change the value of ammo count in game (ammo=1) and zeroes it back when a player leaves. Anyone who enters the match gets affected, and in turn affects others. Everyone — and I mean everyone on the Internet is saying “this is why COD4 fails.” This is a big “I TOLD YOU SO” to IW’s decision to forego the dedicated server model and just go with Read more »
