Kinetic Thumb Energy to Charge Batteries

swing charger 540x559 Kinetic Thumb Energy to Charge Batteries

The concept photo says it all. We’ve seen the power of kinetic energy — rub your hands together and you get a few joules of soothing warmth. Now if only you could store that energy to do something more pragmatic. In the future, why not have batteries that charge using your index finger. The same swagger we see when tossing our key ring to that really nice car can be put to better use charging your mobile phone. You can even go further as to having a hamster wheel charge your batteries, but this would of course raise humane issues. What intrigues me is the simplicity of how this all works. Sure there is the question of how much power your gyrating finger can actually generate and sure, you will be able to open up service-oriented professions for finger twirling (MORE JOBS!) but if we take this concept farther you can actually:

  • find a way to attach the battery to your legs that produce kinetic energy while walking
  • allow the battery to draw power from your mouth as you make dozens of conversations throughout the day
  • put it on your dog
  • yeah, the hamster wheel is sounding more and more intriguing too
