JMJ Wetsuits have developed RDT wetsuits from Star Trek The Original Series. They are available in Command Yellow, Engineering Red and Science Blue. Themed as such you’d have a great time underwater with your “away team” as your dive instructor takes the gold shirt, your assistant DM takes the blue and everyone else wears red. Or wait. That might not be a good idea as you all know what happens to red shirts in away missions… For the longest time I’ve been looking for themed wetsuits as the ones you’d see by Scubapro, EXCEL, Henderson, and MARES are all just the same old thing you find underwater. The good news Read more »

NewsNow not welcome on The Times web site
Do you remember my rant last month about the Right2Link campaign? It seems as if News International, the British newspaper publisher owned by News Corporation, has decided it doesn’t want the patronage of visitors to NewsNow, a UK-based content aggregator. News International has told NewsNow that it is no longer to link to content on The Times website (no link, for obvious reasons) despite the fact that some two million visitors would have benefited from seeing the content. They’ve done it purely by using the robots.txt file, and because NewsNow is a reputable service, it has honoured that block. What’s interesting is that no other aggregators have yet been targeted. Airnergy: Wi-Fi To Full Batt!
Imagine this: you’re at this mall somewhere. You have 3 hours or so to waste. You have your netbook with you and there is free Wi-Fi. No problem right? But what if you are low on battery? Or, if you have a 3-cell battery like I do and it runs outs in an hour or so? It’s not always easy to find an outlet which you can plug your laptop adapter into. Worse, you may not have your charger with you at all times. Electronics company RCA has the perfect solution for this situation: Airnergy. The name itself gives you an idea what it’s about. Airnergy is actually a system, Read more »
Modern Valentine's Card has Disney video player inside
Now that Christmas and the New Year are over, the next interesting “festival” for many is that of Valentine’s Day. In our roundup of five Valentine’s Day gifts for your geek we featured Hallmark’s Valentine’s Day cards featuring sound. That’s fairly old hat now, so three years on and Hallmark has upped its game by creating a limited edition video card that plays some of Disney’s most famous screen kisses. No, it’s not a YouTube link or a card sent by email. This is a real card which contains a small video screen on which the romantic video is played. Here’s the rub: in the UK, just 1,500 of these Read more »
School Uses Video Games As Teaching Tool
Games are thought to be big distractions to learning, especially the formal kind. I recall when I was in college, I’d stay up all night playing my favorite adventure and shoot ‘em up games. Of course by the time I attend my classes, I’d be a walking zombie, with rarely anything getting through my sleepy brain. I wonder how I ever finished my degree a semester early. Now word is that some schools are actually using video games as a tool for learning. Not only are they using video games as alternative means of teaching, they are actually using video games almost exclusively in their teaching curriculum. Popular science writes Read more »
Avoid the cold Hoth weather with Tauntaun Sleeping Bag
Last year, ThinkGeek’s April Fools prank was an imaginary Tauntaun sleeping bag akin to the one Han Solo sliced open with Luke’s lightsaber to keep Luke warm amidst the stark weather of Hoth. Because it would look totally gross to replicate a Tauntaun mold, ThinkGeek was able to ask for permission to license the adult sleeping bag from Lucasarts. The sleeping bag costs USD $99.00 and really makes a decent sleeping bag with the Tauntaun’s head as soft pillow and one fake leg slot for added realism. Oh and the insides are pattered with the Tauntaun’s intestines. Much attention to detail has been carved out of the sleeping bag — Read more »
Drossel Nendoroid
This Drossel nendoroid is one of the more recent nendoroids to be released and it contains quite a few more features than a standard nendoroid. If you’re not familiar with Drossel, she’s the main character of Disney’s “Fireball” series. Her full name is Drossel von Flugel and she’s the robot princess of a future world controlled by machines. I’m sure a lot of people have noticed major similarities between Drossel and virtual pop idol Miku Hatsune, but it’s all probably a part of Disney’s plan to gain a larger presence in the Japanese market, and the fact that there’s now a nendoroid must mean that it’s working. The inclusion of Read more »
iMacs, iPhones and MacBook Pros For Your BJDs!
Collecting Ball-Jointed Dolls (BJD) is probably one of the geekiest but coolest hobbies I’ve seen and heard of. You think that only kids collect dolls? Think again. BJD collecting has a very big but niche market and is most popular mainly with Otakus. There’s just something very anime-ish with most BJDs. Big eyes, skinny bodies, colorful hair. You get the drift. Anyway, these miniature acrylic Apple gadgets are perfect for BJD collectors who are obsessed with Apple products (simply put, Apple Fan girls and boys!) I’m actually considering collecting BJD but I think they’re a very expensive hobby. Yah, I’m not a BJD collector but I definitely can’t help but Read more »

Google Nexus One Or The iPhone?
Oh, the decisions we have to make in life! Less than two weeks into 2010 and I am already facing a dilemma. You see, I have a LONG list of resolutions for this year. If you read my post earlier this week, you’d know that one of them is to finally buy an iPhone. No more self-restraint or el cheapo mode for me – at least for this gadget. Then I started reading up on Google Nexus One. Was this a mistake or a stroke of luck? You tell me. I should receive some news later today about “my” iPhone, but I am thinking that maybe it is the Nexus Read more »
