Of Geek Culture And Brands

Of Geek Culture And Brands

I love Geek Dads – they make being a geek cool, sexy, and sensible all at the same time. There’s this recent post that just got me staring off into space thinking. I am not a parent (yet) but their posts really get my brain working overtime. The post I am talking about is titled “Can Geek Culture Exist Without Brands?” The premise of the post is simple: do we really need to be focused on brands associated with geekiness in order to sustain a geek lifestyle? I suppose that the answers are not cut and dried, as some might want them to be. Daniel Donahoo, the blogger, says it Read more »

Handmade "The Big Bang Theory" items

Handmade "The Big Bang Theory" items

I have been browsing Etsy lately when I came across “The Big Bang Theory” products. I’m a fan of the TV show and I find it disappointing how little variation of “The Big Bang Theory” items there are for sale. So I was a bit surprised to find some on Etsy. The best ones are the get well card with the lyrics from the soft kitty song that Penny sings to Sheldon when he is sick. These will make great cards to give to family and friends who are also a fan of “The Big Bang Theory”. I have boxes full of get well cards and they sure are nice, Read more »

State of the Multiverse 65

Blackest Night #7 The End draws nigh!

Blackest Night is fast drawing to a close (Praise the Light!), and now the Guardians greatest secret is out. Life in the universe originated not on Oa (or rather Maltus, but let’s just ignore that slight continuity error), but on Earth. This is the secret the Guardians swore to keep. On Earth? Come again?!? Become a blood expert like Dexter Morgan

Become a blood expert like Dexter Morgan

Author Rod Englers, an FBI National Academy graduate, wrote a book, “Blood Secrets”, set to be released on April 13. “Blood Secrets” describes tools and techniques used to unravel blood spatter’s code. Any CSI or Dexter fan should read this book. How can the police tell what type of murder weapon was used when the body is missing and all that’s left is a trace of gore? How can they tell if a victim was moved, or which person in a room fired the fatal shot? Englert lays out what he’s learned on a variety of intriguing cases, from puzzling murders in tiny, remote towns to the highest-profile celebrity trials–including Read more »

WoWeekly: Leveling From 70 to 80 – Go Questing Or Level In Instances?

WoWeekly: Leveling From 70 to 80 – Go Questing Or Level In Instances?

With the introduction of the new LFG system, Blizzard has changed the way of leveling from level 70 to level 80. Before patch 3.3.0, the best way to power level to any level is by questing. Just by doing quests the whole day and in the most efficient manner. If you don’t understand what I mean by ‘questing in the most efficient manner’, check out the quest leveling guides made by Joana. Her guides can get you to level 80 in the fastest way possible! But with the new LFG system, people are leaning towards leveling thru instances. Just queueing the whole day, doing the same instances over and over Read more »

A Peculiar, Yet Wondrous NX800 Bravia and the Future of 3D Entertainment

A Peculiar, Yet Wondrous NX800 Bravia and the Future of 3D Entertainment

Sony recently put out an ace if you had chosen to attach yourself to their technology. As they recently launched their line of 3D capable LED’s (it’s really amazing by the way), you’ll also be able to do 3D gaming if you own a PS3. Apparently, the 3D technology has more to do with hardware than the medium itself — a quick firmware update in the future to your PS3 will allow you to play your games in 3D. I saw a quick demo of several titles including Killzone at the recent 2010 Bravia launch, with the NX800 taking center stage (I just love how they call it the “NX” Read more »

Geek Soaps To Make You Feel And Smell Clean

Geek Soaps To Make You Feel And Smell Clean

For some reason, there are people who have this perception of geeks; that personal hygiene is not at the top of their list; that they care more about their toys and gadgets. We all know that this isn’t true – some geeks may not pay that much attention to personal appearances but they do like to bathe and shower just as much as the next person, right? But just in case you are looking for some incentive to spend a little more time in the bathroom making yourself smell nice, take a look at these two soap bars that will definitely get you washing as much as you can. That’s Read more »

5 cool custom munny dolls

5 cool custom munny dolls

Yesterday I wrote about vinyl toys and mentioned that there are some cool custom ones I wouldn’t mind having. Kidrobot sells blanco do it yourself munny and people create fantastic custom dolls from them. I compiled a list of five custom munnies I wouldn’t mind having. 1. Heath Ledger’s The Joker Munny The best Joker so far, a true collectible. Source 2. The Uncanny Orlow Source This one reminds me of Muji products. I went to a Muji store last year and really liked it. 3. Blue Monday Munny It’s blue, do I need to say more? Source 4. Les Morts These three munnies have some something Indian Jones-esque, maybe Read more »

Valentino Rossi gets his own design on HP netbook

Valentino Rossi gets his own design on HP netbook

I don’t fully understand the collaborations between the master sportsmen of motor racing and gadget manufacturers, but they do crop up from time to time. Not to be outdone by Acer with their Ferrari One comes Hewlett Packard’s limited edition dot VR46 netbook computer designed for Moto GP world champion Valentino Rossi. Though the main reason you’re likely to buy this is for the brand association and design, it’s not a pushover when it comes to specifications either. The 11.6-inch display sits atop a full-size keyboard and multi-gesture touchpad. With 1,366×768 resolution on the Diamond View TFT LCD, you can watch high definition content with ease, or port out via Read more »
