Another World Event is up! The Lunar Festival is basically the WoW version of our Chinese New Year. Chinese New Year is usually celebrated on the first day of the lunar calendar of the year. And for this year, February 14 was the start of the lunar calendar. Fascinating how Valentine’s Day and the Chinese New Year coincided, don’t you think so? Anyway, there’s really nothing new about this year’s Lunar Festival. Same old, same old. All you have to do is visit all the Elders in ALL of Azeroth! I kid you not! As a Horde player, I had to brave the major Alliance cities namely Ironforge, Stormwind and Read more »

State of the Multiverse 62
Someone who empathises with Deadpool is in control of the Marvel Universe? I fear for us all. Read more »
M&S appeals to those who like store-branded netbooks
Netbooks are becoming rather old-hat now, but there are still some companies that are jumping onto the rather rusty bandwagon with their own branding. Take Marks & Spencer, the venerable British retailer renowned for its quality food and underwear (amongst other things). While it may have fallen on slightly harder times recently, that hasn’t stopped it from expanding its collection of electronics items with its own triplet of own-branded netbooks. It’s not immediately clear which OEM made the imaginatively-titled MSNB netbook, but given that the retailer is also selling a limited edition HP 110 Tord netbook, my money’s on HP. Correct me if you know otherwise. Specs wise, it’s pretty Read more »
Barbie’s Got Her Geek On!
Last month, Jayvee encouraged us to vote for Barbie’s new career as a computer engineer. The web was ablaze with similar posts and I suppose they worked! Now, those who voted can say with satisfaction that their favorite doll in the world is a computer geek. By the way, I have to admit that I didn’t jump into the bandwagon. My conscience simply couldn’t take it. This is coming from someone who used to decapitate Barbie dolls on a regular basis. Yeah, I was not really enamored by this chick. Anyhow, the voting is over and Barbie has two new careers – computer engineer and news anchor. One thing I Read more »
Fav4: a simple little homepage
The main reason I could never get used to Safari was that it doesn’t has a location(url) bar dropdown with the most visited websites. I already have tons of bookmarks and that dropdown list is just easier. But now Firefox also did away with the location bar dropdown leaving me with no options but to install an extension. And honestly I already have enough extensions installed and each of them slows Firefox a bit. The people at Fav4 came with a brilliant nicely designed idea, a website where you can choose four website to display on the page and set that page as your start page. It’s such a simple Read more »
XP2 Spirit: The most rugged 3G cellphone?
Sonim, maker of ultra-tough mobile phones, has just introduced its latest model. The XP2 Spirit is a 3G-enabled cellphone designed to be fully rugged and yet still sporting a decent range of features. First up, it’s octagonal (not equilateral, that would look rather odd) which is supposed to help it stand up better to being dropped. It’s also waterproof, having an outer shell made from hardened rubber, fibre glass and nylon, and a GORE-TEX covered speaker. Other features include a 3MP camera, two inch high-resolution (QVGA) display (with 1.5mm of Gorilla glass protection), JAVA application support, multimedia player, FM radio, email and web browser, Bluetooth but no Wi-Fi. It runs Read more »
Distant daters use Skype to kindle romance
At a pre-Valentine’s speed dating event held last week at venues in Birmingham and London, UK, organisers used Skype video chat to hook up potential matches. Most of us are familiar with the concept of speed dating, even if we haven’t been on one ourselves, but this version helped bridge a hundred mile gap with the free calling technology. Each “date” lasted three minutes. Sue Ostler, a “professional flirt diva” (eh?), suggested that in the future ” the experience of dating via video will be commonplace”. What do you reckon? Internet dating is now a generally accepted way of finding a mate. What about video dating? Read more »
10 Coolest Nendoroids
As most of you can probably tell from my past posts, nendoroids are my favourite type of anime figures. Not only are they small enough to place almost anywhere, you can also play around with them since they have interchangeable and movable parts. With the number of nendoroids that are available now, it’s hard to believe that the very first one was sold only a few short years ago. Nendoroids usually focus on being cute (it’s their main selling point after all), but I thought I’d make a list of the 10 coolest nendoroids to date. Read more »
BT boasts one-million strong Wi-Fi hotspot network
As a prime example of a large telecoms company embracing a concept rather than railing against it, British Telecom has announced a one-million user strong Wi-Fi network. BT’s customers are expected to spend over a billion minutes on Wi-Fi this year, thanks to a not insignificant amount from iPhone users. Hotspots include the BT FON Wi-Fi community of ordinary users sharing a separate part of their home connection with the public, plus BT Openzone nodes. To celebrate, BT is running a competition in which you have to locate the millionth hotspot. Read more »
Facebook: Relationship Buster
Now that Valentine’s Day is over, let’s read some not-so-mushy stuff… I think that many just might agree with that title. I have heard so many horror stories about Facebook has brought about some nasty things into relationships. Perhaps those things could have been avoided sans Facebook. Perhaps not. No one can really tell, can they? However, some American lawyers were interviewed by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) in a survey aimed at looking at divorce cases. What did they find out? Jeff Bertolucci of PC World narrates: The survey by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) shows that 81 percent of the Academy’s members in the Read more »
