Google Buzz: It's Wave for the Masses

Google Buzz: It's Wave for the Masses

So you found Google Wave’s features too heavy for you to understand. If you recently logged into GMail and did a refresh, you probably were welcomed by a new violator that introduces a “Twitter within GMail.” Well, it’s that and more. Say hello to Google Buzz. In essence, it’s the FaceBook update screen integrated into GMail. You can post updates, link photos and attach the RSS feed of other sites such as Blogger, Flickr, Picasa, etc. Essentially, Google is giving its users a easy time to adapt into a new social news service on their terms. And we’re fine with that. It appears that Google Buzz seems to be an Read more »

It's not too late to learn Code Monkey for Valentine's Day!

It's not too late to learn Code Monkey for Valentine's Day!

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner. If you’re dating a geek, you can easily win his or her heart by playing this song if you know guitar. Jonathan Coulton’s Code Monkey is a familiar tune in the geek circles and although the original is done in full gain, the acoustic version is exactly what you need for a night of binary romance. The chords are here. but I have outlined the tablature progression with my ugly handwriting here. I hope you enjoy. It’s really easy to play as most if it is just in E and basic chords with some variation follow. The tablature chart I made at the Read more »

25 Years: RIM hints industry Monopoly with a special edition board game for employees

25 Years: RIM hints industry Monopoly with a special edition board game for employees

25 years in the business and RIM is doing mighty well for itself. Dealing with the crossfire of lawsuits from back in the early 2000′s, Research in Motion made the right decision by expanding the BlackBerry line into the more affordable and more chic consumer market in the past two years. It’s a good time to be an employee of RIM. To celebrate 25 years, all their employees are getting a special limited edition of Monopoly with custom BlackBerry play pieces. There are several of these photos posted all over the Internet by those under RIM’s employment and a friend of mine who works for RIM Singapore got hers recently. Read more »

7 Harry Potter tattoos from die hard fans

7 Harry Potter tattoos from die hard fans

I’m a Harry Potter fan, I read all the books, most of them the day they where released. I saw all the movies on the big screen and later on DVD. But there is a whole fan base out there that are really hard core fans, so much they have a Harry Potter related tattoo. Now I don’t shy away from tattoos, I have one myself but I don’t think I am a fan of anything so much as to get a tattoo of the object of my fanaticism. 1. Homemade Peanut Butter

Homemade Peanut Butter

Get me one of these for Valentine’s Day and I am yours forever! Well, an iPhone 3GS or a Google Nexus One will do just as well, but if you don’t have that much money to spare, this peanut butter maker will do perfectly. Firebox is selling this baby for a mere $46 and yes, it is in stock. The contraption will allow you to scoop up handfuls of fresh peanuts and churn out some peanut butter just the way you like it. I don’t know about you, but I am quite picky when it comes to peanut butter depending on my mood. Most of the time, I like the Read more »

Overanalysis of Commander Shepard's success rate against insurmountable odds

Overanalysis of Commander Shepard's success rate against insurmountable odds

Let’s talk about Mass Effect. And how Commander Shepard can overcome anything. When the universe needs saving, humanity (as well as the Batarian, Salarian, Krogan, Turian races) turn to no one else but Commander Shepard. Overcoming odds that the Citadel and the Illusive Man would call impossible, he was brought back from the grave to do a Chuck Norris against the forces of evil. Bioware’s script for Mass Effect stressed, from time to time, Shepard’s extraordinary ability to lead a team into the very gates of hell, through it, and back. It was the precise reason that the Illusive Man invested two years into bringing the commander back to life, Read more »

For the PA love of your life: the AV tee

For the PA love of your life: the AV tee

If your significant other is a PA or home audio/cinema nut, then you could do worse than buy them this audio-visual tee-shirt from Threadless. On the back of the shirt we have all the standard connectors you could want, from the (nearly) bygone SCART and S-VIDEO through to HDMI and digital inputs/outputs. On the front, simply a standby button and a phones jack. Sadly, this is just a printed shirt, with no working or moving parts (other than the human body wearing it, of course). I’m surprised it doesn’t come in an iPod version. $18. Tee (Via) Read more »

New BRS Figures at Wonfes W2010

The winter 2010 Wonder Festival took place in Tokyo on February 7. Also known as Wonfes, the event is geared towards figure collectors (and makers) of various anime, mecha, and sci-fi series. Every year, thousands of people line up to get a chance to buy limited edition figures that aren’t sold anywhere else, but Wonfes also gives a chance for figure manufacturers to showcase their new and upcoming products. Some of the products that caught a lot of peoples’ attention were new Black Rock Shooter (BRS) figures manufactured by Good Smile Company. For those of you not familiar with BRS, it started out with some artwork by a person called Read more »

Who Wants Longer Lasting Batteries?

Who Wants Longer Lasting Batteries?

I am sure you have your hand raised – probably both of your hands even. In this day and age, batteries are as essential as the gadgets that they power. There is nothing worse than finding yourself out of juice in the middle of the day without any way to charge your mobile phone or laptop. And while battery life has increased in the past few years, we have to admit that it still has a long way to go. A Japanese company is giving us hope though. Eamex says that it has developed new technology that will extend the life of Lithium Ion batteries. Just how much longer will Read more »

Headphones as fashion

Headphones as fashion

Now that iPods are mainstream they don’t turn heads anymore when you walk around holding one. If you want to draw attention to yourself you can do that with striking headphones. In an era that even tech must be fashionable you need to have the right headphones. You can go with geeky/kid by getting animal earbuds, these are earbuds with animals on the outside so it looks like there are animals sticking out of your ears. There are a total of seven styles of which one is not an animal but a diamond or in other words, bling bling. I’m not sure I would want to be caught walking around Read more »
