I loved Battlestar Galactica, all the way until the last episode. Then I sat there, confounded, and wondering what just happened. That, and I really wondered why they took the lame way out and had them land on past Earth, and start civilization again. Just seemed cheesy to me, and a poor way to end the series.
But I don’t want to let that last episode spoil the other 5 seasons for me, because the series as a whole was amazing. Great acting, excellent storyline, and lots of action. It was what I looked forward to every Friday night.
Now we have Caprica, the show that depicts how the Cylon race started and how they became sentient. At least, that’s how they sold the show to the series, but so far, there hasn’t been a whole lot of Cylon action. In fact, it’s more about the drama around the Graystone family, and all of the weird stuff with the Adamas. There seems to be so many different storylines going on that it’s difficult to follow who did what to whom and when.
After watching the sixth episode the other night, my wife said to me, “I don’t get it.This is supposed to be about Cylons becoming sentient and taking over the planet. Why isn’t there any action? What’s with all this spy stuff? And how would I explain this episode to someone who hadn’t seen it?”
That’s just it. There are so many plot twists, plot lines and so much confusion in general that just describing the show in itself is difficult. And there are so many characters at this point as well that it’s hard to keep track of who’s doing what. Every episode I watch, it seems like I jumped into a story halfway and now I just have to play catch up.
I’m going to give the show the benefit of the doubt for now, but there’s gotta be some changes. Something has got to happen to bring some excitement into the show, otherwise I’m gonna lose interest. It’s debatable that I haven’t already.

It’s BSG 90210.
For me, Episode 5 seemed to lose its way a bit (I haven’t seen Episode 6 yet) but, up until then, I’d say the kind of things you’re highlighting as weaknesses are exactly the things that make the show so gripping. But that’s just me!
My thoughts so far: http://tinyurl.com/yl993qu
It agree with Franky… BGS 90210. At least with 90210 you knew what kind of show you were getting into. Caprica is trying too hard. The writers have lost sight of what is really core to their audience. This show might as well be on the WB.
ARGH!! I haven’t finished watching the series yet!! Thanks for the massive ending spoiler. :/
It may seem that the show is a little slow, but I think character development is essential and should not be short cut. These days where all the shows are explosions and effects, it is nice to see a new show take time to introduce us to the main players. That being said, it could be an easy target for the execs to chop after one season…I hope not.
I agree. As a BSG fan that also was bit disapponted with the ending, I went out and bought the final 5 comic series to ease some sorrows…ultimately it made me hopeful about Caprica as the 5 do tie back to Greystone’s achievement and possability that Daniel could be the old hybred of Razor as it is “the gardians” that make the deal with the 5 for ressurection technology in exchange for stopping the first cylon war. Ellen reviels it is the gaurdians achievement in being able to copy a human soul to a centurian that garentees she can create the 8.
Ultimately Caprica also has the oppertunity to add the virtual aspec back onto the series as virtual messengers were at the helm of Battlestar in leading them to monothesisim. It gives insight that the lords of Kobol (virtual 6 states that she is one in the final 5 comic series) and that Kobol had this technology and offers viewers questions on being able to cross over virtual plans and if we will see another ‘lord of kobol’ messenger as TSO is reminisent of both Cavil’s Plan and theology and that of Baltar’s by the series end.
But I agree that this show just has too many things going on and it’s hard to figure out whom has a history with whom first. It needs to solidify fast and it needs to let BSG fan’s know this relates in some capasity to the mythology of BSG. Lets not let Kobol be a dirty word.
