SONY: SD Card Support, Dual Expansion Strategies, Bloggie

Check out any of the latter releases of SONY Vaio laptops and you’ll be surprised to find a dual card reader up front boasting Sony’s M2 memory AND SD card support. Yep, Sony is in the market for SD cards, realizing, after 10 years how big a market this is. Someone probably pointed out to the execs how sales figures “could have been helped” if only their devices also supported SD.

At a press conference, I asked what made these Sony memory cards more “alluring” to the market since we’re all buying Sandisk. Apparently the benefits for going Sony include card data recovery via software download, a great warranty service and photo sharing capabilities with other Sony products.

The release of the Sony Bloggie is icing on the cake. Aimed to go head on against the Flip HD camera and the 5th generation iPod nano that does video, the Bloggie also comes with the dual expansion strategy — a 4GB M2 card and a slot for SD expansion. The Bloggie isn’t categorized under the Handycam nor Cybershot line. It is apparently its own new segment for YouTube-friendly video uploading for a happy USD $300.00.
