Do you pay as much attention to your passwords as you need to? I will have to be honest and say that I probably need to be more vigilant in this regard. For the time that I spend online and all the sites that I gain secure access to, I do not really put that high of a priority in strong passwords. What I read today has made me think really hard, though. John Pozadzides, Internet standards expert, CEO of web company iFusion Labs, and blogger recently published an article titled “How I’d Hack Your Weak Passwords.” What he revealed is striking, to say the least. We all know that Read more »

Dammit. I'm Gonna Have to Get an iPad
Normally I’d write this over at Apple Gazette – your source for excellent Apple news, reviews and commentary – but let’s face it; there’s nothing geekier right now than the iPad. I originally thought that it wasn’t worth my time. There was no reason for me to get an iPad when my laptop and iPhone do everything I need them to do. I just didn’t see a fit for it in my life, frankly, and I didn’t want to spend the money. I did this same thing with the iPhone. God, did I want the iPhone badly, but it just didn’t fit all of the qualifications that I wanted in Read more »
April Fool's 2010: 5 Funniest Online Pranks
I survived April Fool’s 2010, but I didn’t go unscathed. My Facebook News Feed was bombarded with notifications of friends getting pregnant and getting engaged and I’ve probably replied a sincere “Congratulations!” to a couple of them. Gah, like what I told another friend, I’m a sucker for these things! Aside from the usual fake pregnancies and fake engagements, I’ve come across five online April Fool’s joke that I found quite hilarious: Ben and Jerry’s Virtual Ice Cream. A really quite obvious joke, but funny nonetheless. Now if anyone DID lick the virtual ice cream on their screen, well, THAT’S funny! Google changes it’s name to Topeka. Another prank that’s Read more »
ClothesHacking: T-Shirt Displays New E-Mail Messages
Oh, the things people do to be different. Take this guy, for example. He went ahead and created one of the coolest things I’ve ever seen, and I highly doubt that anyone anywhere will ever own one of these shirts other than him. Why? Probably because it’s not machine washable, but things with a chipset rarely are. Anyways, here’s how it works: The gentleman who designed this shirt – Chris Bell with the help of his wife Madeleine – uses an Android phone for his main source of communications. That connects to the t-shirt via a bluetooth dongle on the face, which then connects to an Lilypad Arduino. That in turn Read more »
LEGO: A Love Story
Freelance journalist Jonathan Bender spent more than a year of his life diving headlong into the AFOL culture. AFOL stands for “adult fans of LEGO,” and if you’re reading this blog, then I have no doubt that you’re one of them. The culmination of his efforts is a memoir called LEGO: A Love Story, and it’ll be in stores next month from Wiley publishing. The book is a 300-page tome that details Bender’s trip into the adult LEGO fan world, his own attempts to rekindle the LEGO builder within, and personal reflections on a creation of a different kind: his first child. It features a hardcover binding, and it’s priced Read more »
It's Gonna Be A Good Year: Expendables Trailer Up Now
I’m a geeky guy, there’s no doubt about that. But at the end of the day, I’m still a man and I still really enjoy action movies. That’s why this is going to be an epic summer. So who’s in this movie? I dunno, just a few people. Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Bruce Willis to name a few. It’s about a crew of mercenaries known as The Expendables who get hired to take out a dictator. Or at least that’s what I’m guessing the plot is, because the trailer is all about explosions, loud noises, and lots Read more »
Storage Problem? 1TB Toshiba Canvio Introduced
Got a storage problem? I know I do. That’s why when I first head about these new portable hard drives by Toshiba, I got a little excited. They come in four different flavors: 500GB, 640GB, 750GB, and 1TB, all for under $200. These are USB 2.0 drives, with no eSata or Firewire options. Right now the suggested list prices start at $119.99 for the 500, and move up to $199 for the 1TB, but Toshiba Direct has the 1TB now for $189, thanks to a $10 instant-savings deal. If black isn’t your thing, they also come in silver, blue, green and red, so you’ve got some options there as well. Read more »
