OK Go Performs Weird Underwater Show At Maker Faire

OK Go Performs Weird Underwater Show At Maker Faire

Ok Go, most famously known for their treadmill music video and weird on stage antics, took weird to a whole new level this weekend at Maker Faire when they performed two songs tucked away in giant fish bowls filled with water. The group wore snorkel gear as they played two of their songs: “This Too Shall Pass” followed by “I Want You So Bad I Can’t Breathe.” The second song really fit the whole surrounded by water with no escape scenario they had set up. 15 Things You Didn't Know About Star Trek

15 Things You Didn't Know About Star Trek

I just stumbled across this infographic about Star Trek, yes another inforgraphic, and had to share it here. I’m not a Trekkie but I did watch Voyager regularly when it was on TV. I only know one fact on this list and that’s the one about William Shatner selling his kidney stone. Most notorious fact to me: Zachary Quinto had to glue his fingers together to perform the Vulcan salute when he played Spock. I feel good to know this because I don’t come even close to perform the Vulcan salute, I would have to glue my fingers too to be able to. I wonder if there are Trekkies who Read more »

Celebrate Geek Pride Day 2010

Celebrate Geek Pride Day 2010

If you have to ask me when Geek Pride Day is celebrated, you ought to be ashamed of yourself! (Okay, fine, not everyone who is a geek really knows about Geek Pride Day.) Tomorrow, May 25, has been designated as Geek Pride Day. Its origins can be traced back to Spain, when it was first celebrated in 2006. Not only were the celebrations done all over the country, they also extended to the farthest reaches of the Earth, thanks to the Internet. Today, Geek Pride Day has gone a long way. So what do you do on this special day? Believe it or not, there is a manifesto. Our rights Read more »

Arakawa Under the Bridge – Insanity

Arakawa Under the Bridge – Insanity

Arakawa Under the Bridge is a new anime that began airing in April and focuses on the daily lives of a group of people living along a river under a bridge. To say that these people have interesting personalities would be a huge understatement. Out of all the anime that I’ve seen, Arakawa Under the Bridge has the most number of characters with some kind of serious mental problem, but that’s what makes it so enjoyable. Here are some of the characters that you’ll find in Arakawa Under the Bridge: Kou Ichinomiya Kou is the main character in the anime and is supposedly the only “sane” person around. After watching Read more »

Train Wreck Potential: Improving The Hoff

Train Wreck Potential: Improving The Hoff

Has it ever happened to you that you thought ‘Whoa this is actually cool but how can I admit that it is to anyone?’. Yes? Great, because I’m really struggling with split feelings for this one. The problem’s simple: it involves a man known from things such as this. Or this and more recently this even. Here at FG we prefer to remember him for his awesome in Knight Rider though. K.I.T.T.’s awesomeness we mean, pardon the lapsus linguae. If this were the early 80s, we would probably all want to look like this and things could always have been worse. So before you go ahead and judge me, keep Read more »

Hackers Wanted a documentary

During my daily browsing I suddenly came upon the news that Ex-hacker Adrian Lamo was Institutionalized for Asperger’s disorder. Apparently Asperger’s is sometimes called the geek syndrome, which rings a bell. I’m currently reading the Millennium Trilogy and the heroin in the books is a brilliant hacker with social issues, Asperger’s disorder is suspected. Incidentally I also came across a documentary about hackers “Hackers Wanted” which also features Adrian Lomo. Produced in 2007 and originally titled “Can you hack it?”, it was never released until today. May 20 2010, when it was leaked on the web. This documentary is for some reason not listed anymore on IMDB but you can Read more »

The Inappropriate Golden Book

The Inappropriate Golden Book

Josh Cooley is a story artist for Pixar Animation Studios. In his spare time, he likes to sketch wildly inappropriate cartoon images, such as the ones he’s compiling into a book called Movies R Fun! An Inappropriate Golden Book. Everybody knows the Golden Books, right? Those illustrated story books for kids based on everything from classic fairy tales to modern kids’ movies? Cooley has taken the idea of Golden Books and turned it into his own playground for re-telling scenes from the kinds of big-screen movies that would scar any youngster for life, but are sure to tickle every geek’s fancy. Google Doodle: Interactive Pac-Man

Google Doodle: Interactive Pac-Man

I don’t know about you, but I look forward to the surprise treats that Google offers every now and then with its Doodles. A few minutes ago, when I went online to check my stuff, I saw a welcome sight on Google – the new Doodle celebrating Pac-Man’s 30th birthday. Take one look at that and tell me that you did not feel a thrill going down your spine! Even better, go visit Google, which I am pretty sure you’ve already done anyway. If you didn’t notice, the doodle is interactive. You can actually play a game or two using your mouse. I guess I have no shame at all Read more »

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Way Back To The 1950's

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Way Back To The 1950's

Star Wars revolutionized the way Sci-Fi and other special effects movies were made, but what would the movie have been like if it had been created in the 1950′s? That’s the question Ivan Guerrero attempts to answer with his 1950′s pre-make of the movie. Before Star Wars fans go freaking out that “Wookie” is spelled as “Wookee” Ivan points out that in an original script treatment for the movie the word Wookie was spelled with his alternative. See the movie after the break. Read more »
