Now that all our data is in the clouds and more and more web applications are popping up, it’s good to summarize what exactly is cloud computing. While the web advances at lightning speed we forget to teach the non-tech people about new developments. That’s why you get people googling a website instead of just entering the URL in the navigation bar. It occurred to me that it is a bit of challenge to just explain it to a less technical person, except for saying “we are assimilating all your data, resistance is futile”, but that’s just Facebook’s mantra. I decided to google some infographics because I have come to Read more »

You too can make the world's geekiest breakfast
Williams Sonoma, those sellers of high-end (and grotesquely overpriced) kitchen gadgetry, has launched its own line of Star Wars products. First up: pancake molds and cookie cutters. Yes, friend, you can now have your pancakes in the shape of Darth Vader, Yoda, and a Stormtrooper. These three nonstick molds, which measure about 4.5″ x 8″ are sold as a set for $19.95. Later in the day, when you feel that Star Wars craving again, you can break out the Star Wars cookie cutters. Each cutter in this set of four (the same as above, plus Boba Fett) has a spring-loaded stamp to make them ridiculously easy to use. They can Read more »
8-Bit Pixel Art with Music Producing Software Ableton
Argentinean DJ Zantho (Santiago Luini) has discovered what is probably the most amazing use of Ableton Live, the well-know and popular sound editing suite. In true FG fashion, DJ Zantho took true childhood heroes and converted them with Ableton to amazing ’8-Bit artwork’. Among the awesome works: Donkey Kong, Mario, Darth Vader, Mega Man, Zero and many more. It may be really hard to believe but this appears to be really done in sound editing software. Mac boys, run to GarageBand and now make something similar, while respecting the Apple UI Guidelines! Read more »
Star Wars Legacy Collection: Willrow Hood, Cloud City's Ice Cream Guy
As Willrow Hood embroidered the finishing touches to his banana split, he wondered whether the decision to go all vanilla, foregoing the traditional precept of the neopolitan way, made as much sense. Living in Cloud City may have already dulled his sense of color, but sneaking away from duty to conjure a batch of ice cream amidst a direct attack by the Empire was more of a dying wish than that of reckless abandon. Willrow Hood works for the gas mining company on Cloud City. When the Empire seizes control of the city, Hood destroys a computer memory core to prevent the Empire from discovering information about secret transactions with Read more »
Geek Tip: What Is A Sidejacking Attack?
I personally think that Geeks are not only into geeky things like anime, comics and gadgets. They should also be tech-savvy. And when I say tech-savvy, I don’t just mean that they know how to use computers and the internet. They should be able to understand things at a “computer scientist’s” (for a lack of better term, hehe. B.S. of Computer Science anyone?) point of view. Here’s a little geek tip I’ve come across just recently. This video was posted almost 3 years ago, but I bet your badoodles not a lot of people are aware of this. I sure wasn’t! Now I’m actually scared of using those free Wi-Fi Read more »
Who Wants To Live In A Geek House?
Renting an apartment or condominium unit can be quite expensive these days, especially if you live in a city like Tokyo. In many modern cities, the premium on space is very high, making living quarters very costly. As such, sharing apartments is not uncommon today. Of course, there is the worry about your roommate (or roommates). Are they trustworthy? Will you get along with them? Do you have the same interests? Geeks in Tokyo seem to have found the perfect solution for this problem. They have created what is being dubbed as the Geek House. The idea is simple: geeks who have common interests come together by pooling their resources Read more »
iWant an iWatch
I need this. I do. Seriously. Sadly, they don’t make it yet. It’s just a concept cooked up by the clever folks at ADR Studio. Their concept design includes an aluminum body, built-in WiFi and Bluetooth (with which you can sync with your iPhone or iPad), an integrated RSS reader, 16GB of memory, a weather forecast app, picture app, an LCD projector to show off your pictures, and availability in multiple colors. It’s a gorgeous concept, but until Apple decides to make it, guess I’ll have to stick with my LEGO watch. Read more »
Nendoroid Petits
Most of you have probably heard of nendoroids by now, small anime figures in super-deformed or “chibified” form. What you may not have heard of before are another class of anime figures called nenoroid petits. As the name implies, these are smaller versions of nendoroids, standing at around 6cm or 2/3 the height of a normal nendoroid. The small stature of nendoroid petits is meant to appeal to people that don’t think regular nendoroids are cute enough because they are too big. Petits come with their own set of accessories and have movable joints like their counterparts. One major difference between petits and regular nendoroids are that petits can not Read more »
Millennium Falcon G4 Server
After the Millennium Falcon bed this really has to be the second best thing since sliced bread: the Millennium Falcon Server. Flickr user Metropolis Creative: I gutted my Millennium Falcon model from 1979 and installed the guts from my Powerbook G4. Two new “C” batteries and it’s ready to fly. The two cords are the power cord and ethernet cable. We have to admit that the Millennium Falcon server a really close call for the best thing since sliced bread is, but the Millennium Falcon bed comes with a girl, right? Read more »
Roberto Rodriguez LEGO'ed: 'Machete' Trailer in LEGO
The hype always is about Quentin Tarantino but if you’re anything like me, you’ll definitely prefer the road-movie factor which Rodriguez brought to earlier Tarantino movies. Road-movie as in ‘less ridiculous violence just because my name is Tarantino and just because I can’. From Dusk Till Dawn minus the vampires. Both worked together regularly and I certainly am a bigger fan of the Mexican who filmed El Mariachi with only $7,000 before receiving funding for Desperados. Don’t get me wrong, I do like Tarantino but Rodriguez is the more mature director of both. Luckily they worked together regularly, even if on under-rated movies such as Four Rooms or over-hyped movies Read more »
