I have my iPhone 3G for more then a year now but I still don’t have a stand alone charger for it. When I’m away from home I always borrow one. But cable chargers are always a hassle, I have no patience for cables if I have to take them along with me.
Now thanks to ThinkGeek you can buy the Cordless Wall Charger for the iPhone and iPods for the nice price of 29.99 dollars.

This device is compact and easy to throw in your bag with the rest of your stuff without everything getting tangled. You iPhone will charge faster too then when charging through the computer due that it’s directly plugged to the electricity net.
Features:
- Charges your iPhone or iPod from any wall outlet
- Dock connector pivots for easy connection
- Fast charging due to increased power delivery (as compared to USB-port charging)
- Compatible with iPhone (Original, 3G, 3GS), iPod Touch (Original-2nd Generation), iPod Classic, iPod Nano (1st-5th generation)
If I remember back to all the places I have spend the night(friends appt., hotels, etc.) the cordless wall charger would have been a much better option then a cable charger. I also have a protective cover for the iPhone due that I have a tendency of dropping my phone, but this cover also keeps the iPhone dry if I happen to spill water on my nightstand or other similar situation.
I must admit when I saw the name “Cordless Wall Charger” I thought it would charge wireless. And in wireless I mean I can be lying in bed using my iPhone or having it on the nightstand and it would charge without needing to be attached. We are being so spoiled with hand held devices I’m really wanting a wireless electrical solution. What’s the point of being able to internet wireless, listen to music, etc. wireless if you still have to hook up the device to charge it.

The closest solution currently available to my knowledge is the Powermat. But the device still needs to be attached. Maybe I’m to much in science fiction zone and transmitting electricity wireless to charge a device is not possible for any kind of reason. But it would be cool though if it was.
Until then the Cordless Wall Charger is ideal for a minimalist like me, it’s easy to take along, it fits in my small messenger bag and it’s white.

Is cordless wall charger compatible with Iphone 4?
No…I checked and was told it is not compatible with the Iphone 4.

Actually it’s perfectly possible, it’s just very hard to do it efficiently. Wireless electricity works by something called induction (As in Faraday’s Law of Induction) and is the basis of electrical transformers. In short, you have a coil of wire with an AC current going through it, which generates an electric field. By taking another coil of wire in another device and putting it in that field, you induce another AC current in this other coil. The problem with it though is that you need large amounts of energy to make that field, and the farther away you are from the source of the field, the weaker the field gets. You would need a LOT of energy to make a field strong enough to charge a sophisticated device like an iPhone at any reasonable speed from more than a few centimeters away. This is why we usually see this kind of charging reserved for simpler devices like an electric toothbrush. It is, however, perfectly possible to set up a very large tesla coil and use it to light up a florescent tube from several feet away.
